The month of June sees original oldskool jungle master, Bay B Kane make a triumphant return to the scene, with his seventh instalment of the long running 'Future Destination' series dropping in Ruff Guidance Records. It's time for all junglists to get their tickets ready for boarding and head for 'Exit 7'. We're going on an expedition into deep drum & bass...

We are first introduced to the shady sounds of 'Suspect', which layers a simple, yet unnerving piano melody and trademark Bay B Kane, oppressive bass riff over an alternating, 2-step and amen combo to create a perfectly moody and energising piece.

Up next we are whisked off into the realms of jazz-step drum & bass with 'JazzMint', where roller-coaster, "live" drum-breaks are interwoven with sultry female vocal snippets, ghostly pads and a hypnosis inducing, looped piano section.

'Dark Manors' drops deep and reflective lyrical flows over a pitched down "Think" break backed by globular bass notes, before unleashing a rolling, heavyweight amen expertly juxtaposed with soaring, soothing pads.

'Boxed V2' lifts a line from an instantly recognisable, cinema classic to form the basis of an exhilarating, bass heavy number, backed by skeletal, stripped back amens and intricate, contemplative synth patterns to get your head nodding.

The man like Kane goes back to his deep, jungle roots once more on 'Mr Lick Gunshot' by dropping a heady blend of rugged breaks, thundering, 808 bass thumps and ruffneck, ragga vocal elements, paired with ominous keys which instantly captures that classic, dark and atmospheric BBK sound.

Bringing the collection to a rousing close, we have the epic and emotive 'Reminisce' which layers melancholic, Rhodes keys paired with matching bass melody and female vocal freestyles over a rugged, stepping breakbeat, flavoured with jazzy saxophone flourishes.

As come to be expected from a veritable jungle pioneer, Bay B Kane delivers a precision crafted collection of contemporary jungle / D&B anthems in the making for those who are seeking a little bit more depth in their music. An absolute essential!!!

For their latest release the Weapon Of Choice Recordings label employs the talents of breakthrough French junglist, Veak who showcases the versatility of jungle and D&B in 2019 with his brand new 6-track, mini-album 'Opposed Gravity'.

First up we are introduced to some hard-hitting ragga-jungle with 'Run De Riddim Track', which sees Veak layer roughneck vocals courtesy of Daddy Supa over scuttering, layered breaks and breezeblock heavy bass punches. 
Up next title track, 'Opposed Gravity' drops an intense fusion of rolling amens interlaced with dissonant, industrial drones and monstrous Reese bass growls to ramp up the tension on the dancefloor.

'Make Some Noise' leads us down a darker, neurofunk tinged drum & bass path with it's blend of hi-octane 2-step and amen break layers, rave MC shout outs and rasping, mid-range synth notes which conjure visions of a bleak, mechanised Dystopian future.
Lifting us from the darkness, but nonetheless still packing a hard punch, we have the futurist-jungle number 'Just A Warning', which takes vocal elements from an iconic, '90's dancehall anthem and melds them over a fierce, nuskool jungle backdrop.

'Get Down' introduces us to a series of delicate, reversed melodies and luscious female vocal snippets before sucker-punching the listener with a deadly combo of layered breaks and subsonic bass notes.
Bringing the collection to a fitting close we have 'Horns Of Jungle', a tearing collaboration with partner-in-crime, Salaryman which does "exactly what it says on the tin" by incorporating soul-shaking dub horns with a frantic, jungle breaks and bass.

Something wanton, something wicked is coming your way to Bandcamp! Darkside don, DJ RoKo unleashes his dark soul to present to you the 'Scary Faces EP', a mini-albums worth of some of the heaviest and most pitch black, breakbeat hardcore and jungle straight from the depths of hell. It's time for us to dig out the garlic and holy water, and step into the DARKSIDE!!!

The dark tone is set perfectly by opening track 'Scary Faces', a thundering slice of darkcore, junglism which blends together a potent mix of heavyweight breaks, doom-laden bass patterns and a flurry of razor-sharp stabs, accompanied by choice 'Hellraiser' dialogue samples. As Pinhead says... "welcome to hell"!!!
'Drones' up next introduces us to some authentic, 1993 style, menace fuelled jungle with it's expert use of ominous pads and rolling amens, which lead you to an unexpected uplifting before descending into chaos once more. 

We are hit with a series of creepy, lonesome 'Landlord' piano stabs on 'Deadly Sins', before the mayhem is let loose under a maelstrom of layered, Formation Records style breakbeats and hyper-kinetic, rave riffs, which in turn are interspersed by periods of eerie calmness.
Our Lead Cenobite returns once more to bring us some 'Reality', which in this case come in the format of ten ton amens, brooding bass, moody synth melodies and a plethora of stab sections (watch out for that Tango & Ratty style riff!!!) that'll get your skin crawling in anticipation. 

'Torment' follows next and delivers a rapidfire selection of tearing beats overlaid with an ascending/descending pad section which immediately evokes the works of 1993 era DJ Junk in terms of atmosphere and breakbeat choppage. Plus points for the added mentasm drones!
We reach the EP's conclusion with bonus track, 'Sirens', a relentless slice of moody hardcore and jungle set to a monstrous bubbling bassline, rolling breakbeats and sinister Jesse Deep 'Planet Mystery' synth notes ramping up the tension perfectly.

It has been way too long since I last reviewed a Kniteforce Again release, so while the Strictly NuSkool Blog's resident hardcore-head, GL0WKiD is on his hols it's time for the Breakbeatscientist to see what the label's been up to. 

In addition the Kniteforce parent label's recent foray into revitalising it's vinyl output, and kick-starting the official Kniteforce Records radio station, KFA has not been resting on it's laurels to bring you the freshest in rave-fuelled electronic music. For KFA83 we are introduced to label newcomer, Timme's massive 'Timmesound EP (Executive Edition)'.

Timme kicks off the EP with some deep, dark and dirty drum & bass action with the positively monolithic 'Forbidden', a track which combines ten-tonne, steppin' breaks with a snarling bass riff that would put the fear into Godzilla himself. Up next the darkness continues with 'Ed Gain', a pitch black slice of neurofunk that's slinks accross the dancefloor with it's monstrous bassline and razor sharp Anasthasia stabs, like a sonic serial killer.

'Happiness' takes us on a more upbeat journey with it's unique blend of euphoric pianos and EDM bass-riffs welded onto a solid D&B framework that only a label such as Kniteforce could pull off releasing. Is the world ready for happy Drum & Bass yet? Only time will tell! With 'Bad Choice' we are once more given an example of what would have happened if the D&B scene had stuck to it's original rave roots, with it's hyper-kinetic fusion of heavyweight breaks and Reese bass drones clashing with electrifying stabs and  4/4 kicks.

The aforementioned hardcore/D&B crossover continues with the first of the exclusive Executive Edition bonus tracks with the adrenalising 'UTurn' (watch out for those Hyper-On Experience style synths!!!) before Kniteforce's very own Clayfighter delivers an immense 4/4, happy hardcore relick of 'Happiness' to ensure that the powerstomp crew gets a nod too.

For a debut release, Timme proves his mettle by delivering a potent selection of dancefloor friendly rave anthems that have huge crossover potential for both drum & bass headz, nuskool rave fiends and upfront hardcore lovers too. We are first subjected to Inphekts' punishing 2-step break and and bass drone workout 'Enders (Dedicated To Dr V)', which combines hard hitting drum programming with sinister dark atmospherics to devastating effect. 'Conjurning' up next expertly utilises sinister sci-fi flick samples alongside oppressive, Bad Company style synth growls set to an uncompromising drum & bass rhythm, creating a unique blend of unease and dance-ability.

The 'Tormentor' steps into the arena next and drops a frantically layered 2-step/amen break combo over a low, rumbling bassline accompanied by a menacingly hypnotic, twisting synth riff. The Strictly NuSkool Blog steps down a few gears, BPM-wise to delve into the very latest installment of Middle Eastern influenced, future-dub from prolific producer Celt Islam with the release of the epic, six track 'Friction' EP.

Our journey begins with the sweeping electronic sounds of 'For The Coming Man', which swiftly segues into it's companion piece, 'Ilm Ul Yaqin', a harsh, robotic bassline driven dub-fusion accentuated by Arabic verses and heavyweight, half-step breaks. 'Friction' up next contrasts both organic and inorganic sounds by merging together bubbling techno melodies, 8-bit bleep flourishes,  and dubstep break patterns with lilting vocals and Middle Eastern percussion. 

We are then introduced to the sprawling epic that is 'Transcendance', a swelling crescendo of skanking dub rhythms, menacing bass growls and uncompromising, pounding beats which builds in intensity until the chaos disperses into a state of tranquility where deep, atmospheric pads and uplifting synth elements combine. This respite proves only momentarily, as we are soon taken back into the tumult once more to complete our journey through the darkness. The electrifying/industrial synth and stab motifs of 'Legend' provides the listener with a deep, slice of trance inducing dubstep peppered with flashes of feedback drone and bitcore blips.

The EP is drawn to an exhilarating close with the hard hitting 'Mahdi', where Middle Eastern influences take centre stage with intricate percussive melodies being accompanied by Arabic vocal chants set to a electronic swells and pulses. Altogether, a perfect conclusion to a richly textured collection of electronic-dub set pieces that should reward all lovers of diversely influenced electronica. We may still be in the depths of Winter but Exit Point and Allowance Records bring to you a solid collection of Summery, liquid drum & bass and chilled downtempo breaks to bring a little sunshine into your life with the forthcoming 'Age Of  Aquarius EP'.

Opening to the sounds of a languid double-bassline and trumpet flourishes, the EP's title track, 'Age Of Aquarius' then introduces lush atmospheric pad notes and stepping, organic breaks to the mix alongside massive bass throbs and African chants to great effect. 

We are taken deep into the depths of a smokey, blues bar for some jazz-tinged drum and bass next with the smooth grooves of 'Ladies & Gentlemen' before the rolling, breakbeat percussion and infectious synth melodies of 'Listen' takes us on another cinematic jazz & bass excursion to make even the E-Z Rollers jealous.
