It has been way too long since I last reviewed a Kniteforce Again release, so while the Strictly NuSkool Blog's resident hardcore-head, GL0WKiD is on his hols it's time for the Breakbeatscientist to see what the label's been up to. 

In addition the Kniteforce parent label's recent foray into revitalising it's vinyl output, and kick-starting the official Kniteforce Records radio station, KFA has not been resting on it's laurels to bring you the freshest in rave-fuelled electronic music. For KFA83 we are introduced to label newcomer, Timme's massive 'Timmesound EP (Executive Edition)'.

Timme kicks off the EP with some deep, dark and dirty drum & bass action with the positively monolithic 'Forbidden', a track which combines ten-tonne, steppin' breaks with a snarling bass riff that would put the fear into Godzilla himself. Up next the darkness continues with 'Ed Gain', a pitch black slice of neurofunk that's slinks accross the dancefloor with it's monstrous bassline and razor sharp Anasthasia stabs, like a sonic serial killer.

'Happiness' takes us on a more upbeat journey with it's unique blend of euphoric pianos and EDM bass-riffs welded onto a solid D&B framework that only a label such as Kniteforce could pull off releasing. Is the world ready for happy Drum & Bass yet? Only time will tell! With 'Bad Choice' we are once more given an example of what would have happened if the D&B scene had stuck to it's original rave roots, with it's hyper-kinetic fusion of heavyweight breaks and Reese bass drones clashing with electrifying stabs and  4/4 kicks.

The aforementioned hardcore/D&B crossover continues with the first of the exclusive Executive Edition bonus tracks with the adrenalising 'UTurn' (watch out for those Hyper-On Experience style synths!!!) before Kniteforce's very own Clayfighter delivers an immense 4/4, happy hardcore relick of 'Happiness' to ensure that the powerstomp crew gets a nod too.

For a debut release, Timme proves his mettle by delivering a potent selection of dancefloor friendly rave anthems that have huge crossover potential for both drum & bass headz, nuskool rave fiends and upfront hardcore lovers too. Get onnit peeps!!! The 'Scientist's top pick is the stab-tastic 'Ed Gain'!!!

Arachnophobes beware!!! Kniteforce label owner Dj Luna-C has not been resting on his laurels since the release of his groundbreaking 'Risk! EP' last month. The 'Almost No Spiders, Guaranteed EP (Executive Edition)' follows hot on the heels of it's predecessor this month with 5 massive tracks to rip up your soundsytem! 

 

'Keep Coming Hardcore' which opens up the EP does exactly as it says on the tin with an energetic hardcore techno backing beat overlaid with classic rave vocal samples to keep the trainspotters happy, and a monstrous, infectious stab riff to get right under your skin. The manic rave energy continues with 'Buggin' Out', which propels big band brass swells, hip-hop elements, a cheeky nu-metal (do they still call it nu-metal anymore???) vocal sample and manic keyboard motif over a throbbing hardcore-tek beat and bassline. 

 

With a cheeky nod to the Invisible Man's 'The Tone Tune', 'All The Worlds Banana’s' raises the euphoric vibes with massive 1992-styled pianos, stabs and diva vocals combined with frenetic synths and pounding kickdrums. 'Hear Me Now' adds a touch of junglistic flavour to the hardcore melting pot, with chopped up amen breaks peppered with strong reggae/ragga vibes and call to 'listen to the drum and listen to the bass' (courtesy of Musical Youth). The track still maintains that 'Luna-C' hardcore attitude with a pulsating bassline and warped riffs aplenty.

 

Last year's 'Because I’m Fucking Angry' from the 'A Whirlwind Of WHAT? E.P' receives an excellent, mental 2015 update in the form of the 'Fuck You (Because I’m Fucking Angry 2)' remix to close the EP in a manic fashion. Expect the 'Almost No Spiders, Guaranteed EP' to take no prisoners when it comes to soundtracking the 'rave' experience. Essential listening!

Kniteforce Again introduces a mammoth collection of upfront hardcore dancfloor slammers for their next Executive Edition release, 'The Recent Remixes'. Which as the title suggests sees 7 of the freshest Kniteforce tracks receive inventive new remixes.

 

U.F.O. is first up to step up to the remix plate with the pounding trancecore revamp of Anglerfish and Lucider's 'Smashed'. Doughboy's 'Heartbreaker' receives the first of two featured remixes. Beginning with an upfront hardcore update from Al Storm and an uplifting D&B styled revamp from Eat Rave.

Doughboy takes on Empyreal's euphoric anthem 'Forwards Never Backwards Ever' whilst Haze hardtek's the heck out of Luna-C's 'Fly To Heaven'. Empyreal then gets an epic Dj Luna-C makeover for his 'Winter Is Coming' track complete with trance riffs and dubsteppy bass throbs. To close things off, The Timespan's 'Hold Me Passionately' gets a Demcore, 4/4 hard house update to wind things down in an energetic fashion.

After a 2 year break from producing hardcore music to pursue a folk-rock music project as Reeve, Kniteforce label owner, Chris 'Luna-C' Howell steps back into the rave arena with his long awaited comeback EP 'A Whirlwind Of WHAT? (Executive Edition)'.

 

Featuring 6 brand new, upfront breakbeat hardcore tracks, 'Back'n'Back (Luna-C Version)' opens up in manic, sampleadelic fashion, merging oldskool hip-hop vox (Eric B & Rakim, Public Enemy, etc) and a plethora of eclectic samples with rolling breaks, pounding bass and euphoric synths to awesomely chaotic effect.

 

Luna-C takes things of into moodier territory with the aggressive 'Because I'm Fucking Angry' which is propelled with a pounding 4/4 kickdrum, gnarly, growling bass and accentuated with smatterings of breaks along with some seriously pissed off vocals. 'Emus In The Asylum' follows suit and comes in with horror movie samples, raucious guitars, monolithic riffs and an inexplicable focus on 'Emus'! Oh yeah, can't forget the little borrow from The Prodigy also.

 

Highlight of the EP for me is the astoundingly feelgood 'Fly To Heaven' with it's simply gorgeous pianos, luscious female vocals battling it out with rolling amen breaks and boombastic bass. If ever there was a track that could champion the cause of happy D&B, this would be it!

 

Included only in the for a limited time only Executive Edition version is the energetic reworking of the Kniteforce Records classic 'Take Me Away' by label newcomer, Haze, who takes the soaringly euphoric happy hardcore original into pounding hard trance territory, with devastating results. Closing off the EP is the 'Public Mix' of 'Back'n'Back', which in Luna-C's own words is the more "normal" version, with less samples than the more traditional Luna-C, eclectic version.

 

A welcome return to one of hardcore's founding artists and a sure sign that Luna-C and the Kniteforce brand will continue to carry the flag for all forms of hardcore music.

Featuring six uplifting hard dance tracks from pumping, euphoric happy hardcore with opening track 'Nobody Home' which appears to be a hybridise many styles and add a seriously cool rap vocal. The acidic belter 'Lo And Behold' and 'Forward Never Backward Ever' also twists up the hardcore formula to great effect while the almost gabba-tinged 'Death Shall Have No Dominion' leads things into darker territory. 

'Was There A Time' gives hard house a kick up the arse as only Kniteforce Again could while 'Get Medieval' closes the EP, offering up an epic, soaring track conjuring up medieval, fantasy themes.

 

A highly recommended and out of this world EP for any fans of hard-hitting, euphoric dance music.
