For 2017's first Viral-Mental Records release, USD (aka UpSideDown) drop a quartet of deep, dark and nasty neurofunk numbers with the release of the 'Intensity' EP to provide a perfect soundtrack for the bleak and wintery days of January.

The ice cold, cinematic intro of 'Intensity' eases us into the darkness with it's intricate blend of heavyweight, shuffling breaks, menacing, sweeping strings and twisted bass riff straight from an industrialised version of Hades. 'Want It Bad' sees snatches of sweet female vocals phase throughout it's harsh, tech-step soundscape to deliver exquisite touches of light, to the pitch black atmospherics.

Up next, 'Sobriety' introduces a series of cacophonous, orchestral drones paired with a punishing, 2-step breakbeat and grinding, low-end, bass riff which just eases the listener into a state of blissful, yet twisted paranoia. 'Extra Strong' bookends the EP in a hip-hop flavoured, neurofunk fashion. Where  rock solid beats and bass do battle with smatterings of gruff rap vocals.

If you prefer your D&B of a more darker, industrial tinge then USD more than delivers an EP that will be guaranteed to give your neighbours a headache and get headstrong neuro-freaks jumping!!!

USD sets the ball rolling with the original mix of 'Willing To Fight'. A rugged, two-step break stepper propelled by a screeching, tortured neuro-bassline laced with powerful anti war message. Cynical Gene next strips things back with his minimal reworking, and adds further warped bass manipulations over pounding, relentless beats. 

Hektic drops some junglistic, amen edits complete with uncompromising buzzsaw bass notes with his tearing remix, before things go deep and dark with Dredillah's immensely sinister reinterpretation. A killer fusion of minimal and off beat elements on the intro which soon explodes into one hell of a killer bassline. 

Next up we are introduced to the heavyweight, industrial overtones of Paladin's remix, which sees haunting atmospherics blend into immense 'Shadow Boxing' style bass groans all backed by punishing, pounding beats. For the latest installment of Viral-Mental Records, exclusive remix EP's, we see Paladin's 'Delight' from last December's excellent 'Nebula EP' receive five tearing relicks from label regulars, Dredillah, USD, Inphekt, Skorpz and Hektic. 

We are first given a reminder of Paladin's original version of 'Delight', which pays homage to those classic, oldskool, atmospheric jungle tunes of yesteryear, whilst giving the formula a 2016, contemporary drum & bass update. Whereas the 'Original Mix' went the atmospheric route, Dredillah's accurately titled 'Junglistic Remix', takes the listener deep into rougher and rugged territories with the implementation of additional ragga elements, dub skank notes over heavyweight amen breaks. 

'Delight' then get's a neuro-tech makeover from USD who combines the original's haunting chimes with a minimalist, 2-step break and monstrous, grimy bass growls. Up next Inphekt delivers a twisted bass heavy, Dystopian, sci-fi vibed re-working interlaced with scuttling breaks and inter-weaving, oppressive synth notes.

We are then presented with visions urban unrest on the 'Skorpz Remix', with it's frenetic drum programming, menacing bass throbs, haunting midsection pads and panic inducing police sirens. Hektic rounds of the collection with his epic, multi-layered, breakbeat driven remix, which utilizes the euphoric/atmospheric synths of the original to provide a perfect compliment. 

Paladin's 'Delight' receives five very different, but altogether absolutely essential remixes for even the choosiest drum & bass heads out there. Definitely something for everyone here!

HEKTIC sets the ball rolling with his own original mix of 'Exit This Way (Devils Door)'. A menacing, Neuro stepper featuring an ominous, descending riff doing battle with pulsating bass, militant 2-step breaks and distorted, demonic vocal whispers. PALADIN ramps up the uneasiness by adding more cinematic horror movie elements before dropping an amen driven barrage of breaks and huge, subsonic bassline. While G.A.S introduces blip-stab flashes and technoid bass throbs over a breakneck-speed percussion section.
