[BPR010] Opius - 3.142 LP [Available To Download From All Good Digital Download Stores!!!]

1/ Heavy Hearted (feat. Anthony Greninger).
2/ Red Admiral.
3/ The Green Room VIP.
4/  Doin' It.
5/ Dusty Needle.
6/ Time To Ride.
7/ 3.124.
8/ Sound Crew VIP.
9/ Walking The Planets (Rollerz Mix).
10/ They're Real.
11/ Primitive Savages.
12/ Spirit Weaver.

Veteran drum & bass producer, Opius unveils his latest magnum opus with the release of his brand new '3.142 LP' on Ballpark Recordings. Featuring twelve storming D&B tracks spanning a range of styles from the rough to the smooth, it's time for us to delve into this musical adventure...

The album sets off with a collaboration with US piano maestro, Anthony Greninger on 'Heavy Hearted' which expertly blends together crisp rolling breaks and gentle bass notes with a gorgeous, uplifting piano melody before being succeeded by liquid jazz and bass fusion, 'Red Admiral'. Up next 'The Green Room VIP' ramps up the smokey blues flavours to maximum with it's live instrumental elements and laid back saxophone notes, to create a proper head-nodder of a tune.

On 'Doin' It', the laid back, live grooves continue, but are enhanced with the addition of a monstrous, growling bassline overlaid with steppin' breaks. 'Dusty Needle' takes us back in time by dusting off old bebop LP's and melding them with a rolling breakbeat and positively joyous bassline that will not fail to get people moving on the dancefloor. 'Time To Ride' then steers the album onto more tear-out territor with it's melting pot of spaghetti Western movie dialogue and heavyweight breaks and bass combo.

The album's title track '3.142', sees Opius continue on with the big, bad and heavy D&B formula with it's rubber band bassline and vintage Flava Flav/P.E. samplage and is soon joined by the equally bombastic 'Sound Crew VIP', which tips it's hat to the vintage jungle sounds of the mid-nineties whilst giving it a meaty 2017 update. We are next introduced to the deep and atmospheric amen workout, 'Walking The Planets (Rollerz Mix)' which serves up an exquisite soundscape of space-age speech samples , soaring pads and razer sharp amen edits.

'They're Real' takes us to the darkside of drum & bass with it's tearing fusion of hyper-kinetic breaks, dirge like synth drones and horror flick dialogue and is followed up in a similar, ominous fashion with the trippy, sci-fi, psychedelia infused 'Primitive Savages'. The album is then brought to it's conclusion by 'Spirit Weaver', a track which pays homage to those classic Blue Note, tech-step sounds of '96-'97' with it's ten-tonne amen edits and sinister bass heavy synths (a la Dillinja's 'Unexplored Terrain'). Providing a perfect close to an altogether richly texture drum & bass album.

If your tastes in drum & bass span all sub-genres of the scene, then the '3.142 LP' is guaranteed to satisfy even the most discerning headz musical appetite. Get on this one, now!!!

We're going on a 'Dark Journey'!!!

After a chilling, teasing intro, we are soon presented with the positively diabolical 'See You In Hell', a thundering fusion of rolling breaks, menacing bass drones, intricate synth melodies and demonic mentasm growls. Up next we are hit with a duo of heavyweight, acid and hoover enhanced breakbeat hardcore bombs with 'From The Future' and 'Dead Rising'. Two electrifying tracks which capture the manic urgency of headstrong, oldskool hardcore without succumbing to fluffy pianos or cheesy diva vocals.

'Descend To Hell' takes us on a 120 mile per hour trip to the darkside with it's breakneck speed beats and jarring horror movie sound effects, before we are fast forwarded into the future, retro-hardcore-style with the sci-fi flavoured 'Signal In Space'. Up next 'Send In The Clowns' flavours it's oldskool breakbeat hardcore format with a pinch of junglistic breaks and huge helping of monstrous neuro D&B style, bass blasts to ramp up the atmosphere whereas 'Lost Wastelands' takes us on a pounding jungle-tekno excursion, complete with an immense, acid-techno drop and razor-sharp 'Anasthasia' stabs.

'Gang Culture' continues on the hardcore/jungle/techno soundclash with it's potent blend of bubbling 303 basslines, rolling 'Omni Trio' breaks and electrifying rave riffs set to a series of ominous gangster movie dialogue and news report sampling. Darkcore raises it's ugly head yet again with the pitch black 'Nightmares', which emulates the classic genre tropes of vintage 1992 themed hardcore, whilst giving it a modern, almost Prodigy-esque twist. The album is then brought to an apocalyptic close with 'The Paranormal', a colossal slab of premium quality darkness with some seriously atmospheric pad action.

Even on first listen it becomes instantly clear that Deadly Nightshade's 'Dark Journey' has been a labour of love in the making with it's combination of genre-spanning, richly textured sound palettes and hectic paced, rolling breakbeats. If you consider yourself a lover of the darker side of hardcore then you will need to have this on your collection!!!

The 'Dark Journeyalbum is available to download now from Deadly Nightshade's Bandcamp page for £7.00, or more if you wish to support the label and artists to fund future releases.

[RARA 37] Samhain - The Launch [Available To Download Now From All Red Alfa Records Digital Stores!!!]

1/ The Launch.
2/ Mettle.
3/ Ex Machina.
4/ Freash Air.
5/ The View From Space.
6/ Jazz Club.
7/ Colours Shifting.
8/ Equals.
9/ Right Now.
10/ Back Home.
11/ Eden.
12/ Apocalypse.

Drum & Bass production house, Red Alfa Records unveils their very latest album, with the spotlight falling on mainstay contributor Samhain, introduces his brand new twelve track album, 'The Launch'.

We are first taken into the stratosphere with the title track, 'The Launch' which effortlessly sets the tempo with it's adrenalising combination of razor sharp, 2-step breaks, thunderous bassline and electrifying synth riff. We switch the tempo on 'Mettle', which first eases the listener with it's soothing Detroit style pad intro, before morphing into a heavyweight breakbeat number, complete with rasping mid-range stab pattern. 'Ex Machina' up next brings us back up to D&B speed with it's fusion of 200mph breaks and electrifying synth line.

'Fresh Air' drops a little bit of bleep and bass into the mix with it's infectiously catchy synth riff set to a minimalist breakbeat and acidic frills before we are introduced to the hand-in-the-air anthem that is 'The View From Space', which delivers a massive uplifting melody accompanied by hyper-kinetic beats that'll be guaranteed to get the crowd moving. 'Jazz Club' captures the same vibe as classic John B (circa his New Identity/Beta Recordings releases), with it's fusion of crisp breaks, gentle flute melody and double bass lead.

Samhain shows that he isn't afraid to inject a little bit of feelgood, vocal house into the mix with 'Colours Shifting', which incorporates gorgeously ethereal female vox over soothing pads, before things go a touch darker with the menacing 'Equals'. A blistering two-step drum & bass number with a mid-range riff to die for. On 'Right Now' up next we are carried away on a series of rolling breaks and FX-ed vocal notes, backed by an undulating bassline and twisting leads.

'Back Home' offers a contrasting blend of heavyweight, tear-out beats and synths paired with emotive, symphonic strings to create a perfect balance between the rough and the smooth. The contemplative 'Eden' takes us on a serene breakbeat excursion accented by gentle, Oriental strings before the album goes out with a "BANG" with the industrial tinged, neuro belter, 'Apocalypse'. A track that could easily soundtrack the end of days.

If your musical tastes crave for highly polished and versatile tracks, then Samhain's magnum opus here will easily satisfy those cravings. Get this in your collection and Into your mixes A.S.A.P.!!!

Amiga Breaks returns to Dark Til Dawn Records with the release of a massive collection of oldskool style breakbeat tracks, heavily inspired by the classic sounds of the Amiga 500-1200 computers of yesteryear. Taking a departure from his trademark 140-160 bpm forays into the realms of hardcore and jungle, Amiga Breaks winds the tempo down to 120 bpm with the brand new '16 BIT Memories' album.

Right from the first few bars of atmospheric breakbeat opening track 'Interdimensional Sliding' to the deep techno outro of 'Binary Dreams', it becomes clear that Amiga Breaks has taken great steps to reconstruct the classic, retro sounds of the early nineties, whilst adding his own personal spin on the genres contained. For the likes of 'Deep Constellation', 'Liquid Flow', 'Mind Science' and 'Nu Jazz Kind' we see a funk flavoured, 2-step garage breaks and shuffling house percussion, combine with lush strings rolling basslines to great effect, providing the perfect combination of rough and smooth textures.

'Digital Vistas' and 'Execute Command' we are provided with two electrifying takes on the classic techno template with the former's energetic, synth heavy flow and the latter's electro-esque focus on beats and bass. Rolling breakbeats are the flavour of the day with 'Titan Rise' and 'U Turn Around Jupiter' layering a heady blend of euphoric and silky smooth synth melodies over rugged beats and deep bass notes. In addition to the aforementioned genres, the spirit of rave flow strong through the pulsating bass riffs of 'Mr Sax' and 'Positive Vibes'the latter of which utilises a positively uplifting, dubwise riddim combined with soothing pads.

7/ Pad And Bass.

12/ The End Of The Beginning.

After years of sharing his wealth of music on Soundcloud, veteran producer and unsung hero of the underground Hardcore Breaks and Jungle scenes, Amiga Breaks (aka DJ Fuzzbuzz) has finally collated his finest works together to release his first ever artist album, 'Journeys End' on Dred Collective offshoot label Dark Til Dawn Records
Ever since his first forays into making music, the Amiga Breaks sound has lately become firmly entrenched in vintage production techniques, with many of his tracks being created on the Amiga PC and in the OctaMED tracker format to retain that authentic oldskool sound. And 'Journeys End' perfectly showcases that dedication to the classic early nineties vibe.

From the shamelessly ecstatic opening track 'Oldskool Daze' which takes us back to the heady days of '91-'92 where smooth house grooves and uplifting pianos unite with pumping bass and crunching breakbeats, to the stirringly mellow breaks bass, and piano led closing track, 'The End Of The Beginning'. 'Journeys End' is an ambitious album which expertly strides the whole spectrum of the rave continuum.

The album veers towards 1993-style hardcore and junglism with the excellent 'Past Regrets', which to me evokes memories of Reinforced Records a la Underground Software/Nookie, and 'Round Trip' take us on an exhilarating 4/4 kickdrum, rushing piano and jungle breakbeat ride that feels like it's rolling at 200mph.

'Scratch This' meshes techno undertones to the roughneck, stab-heavy hardcore formula while 'Miso Ramen' continues on with the jungle-tekno theme whilst adding some lush, soaring pads to the mix. Classic sci-fi flick dialogue crops up in the atmospheric, yet rolling epic 'Time To Die'. A 10 minute beast of a track awash with thundering breaks, accentuated with additional drum edits, thumping bass throbs, sweeping synth washes and a gritty oldskool vibe throughout.

Oldskool jungle and nuskool D&B styles collide with the dubwise 'Pads And Bass', which adds dub-reggae piano notes to stepping breaks and rude, reversed bass throbs and 'Venus Wars', which features 10 tonne, heavyweight amens and intense drumbreak edits .

We are introduced to the first of the three brand new Amiga Breaks tracks next with the breakbeat hardcore, meets acid, meets dub skanking 'J.T.V 15' which is then backed up by the breakneck speed, 1993-style, piano hardcore track that is 'Raving Days' and the euphorically uplifting penultimate track, 'Feeling High'.

It becomes clear upon listening that Amiga Breaks / DJ Fuzzbuzz, 'Journeys End' has been a labour of love in it's creation and showcases the artist's expertise on capturing his passion for re-energising the oldskool sound, and is an essential purchase for all lovers of high BPM, breakbeat based music. 'Journey's End' has received
