[RARA 37] Samhain - The Launch [Available To Download Now From All Red Alfa Records Digital Stores!!!]

1/ The Launch.
2/ Mettle.
3/ Ex Machina.
4/ Freash Air.
5/ The View From Space.
6/ Jazz Club.
7/ Colours Shifting.
8/ Equals.
9/ Right Now.
10/ Back Home.
11/ Eden.
12/ Apocalypse.

Drum & Bass production house, Red Alfa Records unveils their very latest album, with the spotlight falling on mainstay contributor Samhain, introduces his brand new twelve track album, 'The Launch'.

We are first taken into the stratosphere with the title track, 'The Launch' which effortlessly sets the tempo with it's adrenalising combination of razor sharp, 2-step breaks, thunderous bassline and electrifying synth riff. We switch the tempo on 'Mettle', which first eases the listener with it's soothing Detroit style pad intro, before morphing into a heavyweight breakbeat number, complete with rasping mid-range stab pattern. 'Ex Machina' up next brings us back up to D&B speed with it's fusion of 200mph breaks and electrifying synth line.

'Fresh Air' drops a little bit of bleep and bass into the mix with it's infectiously catchy synth riff set to a minimalist breakbeat and acidic frills before we are introduced to the hand-in-the-air anthem that is 'The View From Space', which delivers a massive uplifting melody accompanied by hyper-kinetic beats that'll be guaranteed to get the crowd moving. 'Jazz Club' captures the same vibe as classic John B (circa his New Identity/Beta Recordings releases), with it's fusion of crisp breaks, gentle flute melody and double bass lead.

Samhain shows that he isn't afraid to inject a little bit of feelgood, vocal house into the mix with 'Colours Shifting', which incorporates gorgeously ethereal female vox over soothing pads, before things go a touch darker with the menacing 'Equals'. A blistering two-step drum & bass number with a mid-range riff to die for. On 'Right Now' up next we are carried away on a series of rolling breaks and FX-ed vocal notes, backed by an undulating bassline and twisting leads.

'Back Home' offers a contrasting blend of heavyweight, tear-out beats and synths paired with emotive, symphonic strings to create a perfect balance between the rough and the smooth. The contemplative 'Eden' takes us on a serene breakbeat excursion accented by gentle, Oriental strings before the album goes out with a "BANG" with the industrial tinged, neuro belter, 'Apocalypse'. A track that could easily soundtrack the end of days.

If your musical tastes crave for highly polished and versatile tracks, then Samhain's magnum opus here will easily satisfy those cravings. Get this in your collection and Into your mixes A.S.A.P.!!!

[RAR 0194] DJ Tez - Tailgater EP [Available To Purchase Now From A ll Good Red Alfa Records Digital Stores!!!]

1/ Tailgater.
2/ The Sleeper.
3/ Error.
4/ Tremor.

The Granite City's resident drum & bass don, DJ Tez in association with the Red Alfa Records label presents four massive, heavyweight steppers with the release of the 'Tailgater EP'.

Things get off to a rock solid start with the bass heavy title track, 'Tailgater' which fuses heady, psychedelic synth notes over a relentless, 2-step break pattern to form a hi-octane, roller that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. Up next 'The Sleeper' takes us deep into menacing, neuro-bassline territory with it's combination of militant breaks and monstrous, growling bass riffs accented by futuroid, blips and flutters.

'Error' introduces, ominous, descending guitar licks to a series of paranoia inducing, scuttling percussive elements and rasping synth notes to conjure up what could be the perfect soundtrack to dark, sci-fi Western. The EP is brought to a close by the minimalist, moody 'Tremor' which delivers a series of hypnotic bass notes which evokes the feel of classic, late nineties Bristolian drum & bass.

DJ Tez has created a quartet of bass heavy, drum & bass belters that proves that the North East of Scotland loves it's breaks and basslines just as much as the genres' London based birthplace. Grab yourself a copy pronto!!!

[RARA028] Distrax And Decibel Lecter - Unprecedented Algorithms [Available To Purchase From All Good Red Alfa Records Digital Stockists!!!]

1/ Distrax - Something New.
2/ Decibel Lecter - Worlds Collide.
3/ Distrax - Living In The Fear Of Jungle.
4/ Decibel Lecter - Run It Red.
5/ Distrax - Gonna Get Sorted.
6/ Decibel Lecter - Nightmares.
7/ Distrax - Something New (Decibel Lecter V.I.P).
8/ Decibel Lecter - Worlds Collide (Distrax V.I.P).

Two underground drum and bass behemoths forge a mighty allegiance on the very latest release from respected D&B label, Red Alfa Records. The ever prolific Distrax and Red Alfa label mate Decibel Lecter combine their distinctive talents to deliver the 'Unprecedented Algorithms' album. Featuring eight razor-sharp drum and bass, future anthems, prepare yourself for the clash of the Titans!!!

Distrax is first up to the plate with 'Something New', a sublime combination of rolling breaks, thundering bass throbs and a melancholic synth melody that evokes the works of Burial and Boards Of Canada. Sparring partner Decibel Lecter delivers his musical retort next with 'Worlds Collide', which layers an eclectic selection of vocal and sonic elements over a rock-solid, stepping breakbeat and massive, bass heavy riff section. Things go a little darker on 'Living In The Fear Of Jungle', which expertly fuses together menacing drum & bass and jungle influences before introducing a immense, euphoric drop to break through the darkness.

'Run It Red' sees a sultry, diva's spoken words espousing a message of positivity interwoven through a series of crisp and precise, clockwork beats and spine-tingling stabs that'll get all ravers' hands in the air. The opening bars of 'Gonna Get Sorted' delivers an unrelenting, gritty breaks pattern which is contrasted by a succession of warped, acid-frequencies flowing throughout. We are then taken on a roller-coaster ride, deep into the darkside of drum & bass with 'Nightmares', where a mammoth, electric-shock stab section from the bowels of hell does battle with monstrous bass notes and nightmarish, horror-themed dialogue.

'Something New' receives an oppressively dark, V.I.P. makeover from Decibel Lecter, who utilises classic Ultramagnetic MC's, shuffling breaks alongside harsh synth notes and menacing atmospherics. Distrax then returns the favour by rounding off the album with his equally dark 'Worlds Colllide V.I.P.', which strips the original mix back to it's bare bones and adds haunting pads, skeletal breaks and low-end bass rumblings to great effect.

With 'Unprecidented Algorithims', Distrax And Decibel Lector offers their own unique and richly influenced take on the drum and bass formula, offering an excellent selection of expertly produced and hard-hitting future classics. So if you consider yourself a D&B fanatic, then make sure that you have this in your collection!!!

[RARS 14] Dirty Freud - The Talking Cure [Available From All Good Red Alfa Records Digital Stockists Now!!!]

1/ Laxmi & Dirty Freud - Silence Me.
2/ 5 11.
3/ The Assembly Rooms.
4/ Chasing Ancients.

In a departure from their usual drum & bass output, Red Alfa Records in conjunction with label newcomer Dirty Freud take us on a journey into deep, breakbeat driven bass music with their brand new release, 'The Talking Cure' EP.

We are first introduced to the laidback, yet moody breakbeat swing of opening track, 'Silence Me', which combines soulful and contemplative vocals, courtesy of Laxmi with deep bass throbs and sweeping atmospherics. Freud takes us in a more leftfield direction next with the melting pot sounds of '5 11', where shuffling breaks do battle with menacing, looped orchestral strings and electrifying stab melodies conjuring up memories of the instrumental output of legendary, avant-garde hip-hop acts Antipop Consortium.
'Assembly Rooms' opens to a series of intricate piano notes, lulling the listener into a false sense of security before dropping a jaw-dropping and increasingly intensifying, future-electro breakbeat and bass pattern that'll be guaranteed to get anyone with a heartbeat moving their feet. The EP is then drawn to a  perfect close with the cinematic, 'Chasing Ancients', with it's invigourating blend of stirring synths, techno bleeps, brooding bassline and industrial beats.

Dirty Freud's 'The Talking Cure' EP draws inspiration from all areas of breakbeat based music, with flashes of dubstep, I.D.M, electro, oldskool rave and dub to be found within whilst maintaining enough originality to challenge the likes of the mighty Warp Records finest acts.

22/ Marcus Tee - Winter Sun.

Red Alfa Records steps back into the D&B arena with another gargantuan collection of upfront drum & bass anthems. Featuring 22 huge tracks from the very best production talent from the central belt of England, it's time for the Strictly NuSkool Blog dons it's camo gear and flack jacket to investigate.

Babylon 3 kicks off the proceedings with his heavyweight breakbeat backed, yet soulful vocalled stepper, 'Mace' which is soon accompanied by the monstrous, dark bass growls of Distrax's 'I Feel The Friction'. DJ Suspense steps into the fray next and drops the head-nodding, minimalist grooves of 'Seen', which is then succeeded by DJ Dossa's cheeky, tear-out re-rub of a veritable oldskool classic with 'Dubs An' Ting'

We are subjected to a series of punishing, ten tonne breaks and neuro bass with Durtee's 'Fair Game' before Exit Point's high octane D&B meets dub reggae skanker, 'This Beat' drops next. GLT introduces a infectiously upbeat synth melody, before tearing the listener's head off clean off with tearing, junglistic breaks and bass on the drop with The Flight, closely followed by Jamie Rant's  'Rare Jewelz', which meshes together soulful female vocals with a frenetic steppin' break and a warped, mutant bassline to great effect. We are then taken deep into the darkside with Jon Ahmed's pitch black and sinister 'Hardkore Jungle', which assaults your eardrums with a series of heavyweight breaks and mentasm flashes.

Langham up next brings us back to the light with his mellow amen roller, 'Ya Hear Me' which pitches a jazzy synth melody alongside snippets of ragga chatter and a rude bassline. For those who prefer some deep, liquid vibes, then Pedro Jenko's smooth, sci-fi stepper, 'The Devil's Work' does the job perfectly. Samhain introduces an epic, trance 'n' bass flavoured bass-beast with 'Stomped' (watch out for those 'Predator' samples!), while we once again re-enter saw-toothed, neuro bassline territory once more with Nexsuz' deep and heavy 'Sleeper'

There are plenty of feel good ragga-dancehall and deep bass vibes delivered with Sniper's jungle-themed skanker, 'Wol On' before the album takes a detour into off-kilter D&B territory with Soundz Familia's dub-funk-jungle track 'Just Bop', which delivers a killer bassline accentuated with 8-bit 'arcade game' FX. Supremacy drops a massive slice of gritty and grimy, neuro filth with 'Gang War' next which is soon accompanied by the hauntingly deep, dark and atmospheric drones of Thug Widow's drum-step epic, 'Your Prayers Unanswered'

We are treated to some fast paced, aggro-jungle with 'Transpose Ceti' by Durtee, which sees Top Cat, ragga vocal snippets do battle with huge bass throbs and tearing amens soon to be joined by Nexsuz, who also makes his returns with 'Phosphorous', a solid neuro-stepper complimented with monolithic bass growls. Beginning with a half-speed downtempo hip-hop break, Soundz Familia's 'Plots A Joker' takes Jack Nicholson's titular take on the iconic super villain into a dirty, buzzing, bass fueled jump-up drum & bass excursion backed up by Jamie Rant's razor-sharp, martial arts themed slab of neuro-funk, 'Dead Man Stance'

The album is drawn to a close by the upbeat liquid grooves of Marcus Tee's 'Winter Sun', which adds a soothingly infectious vocal melody to a solid breakbeat arrangement to ensure that 'The Midlands Connection' album ends with a touch of funk.

The massive 'Midlands Connection' album is available to purchase from all good Red Alfa Records digital stockists now, so give yourself a D&B feast and grab now!!!

Heavyweight drum & bass producer and regular Red Alfa Records contributorDistrax presents his debut album 'I Didn't Choose Music, Music Chose Me' featuring fifteen massive dancefloor orientated D&B floor-burners available as a Limited Edition CD.

The album opens to the sound of soulful female vocals with 'Know What You Want', which are soon accompanied by frantic amen breaks and a colossal buzz-saw bass, before we are rewound back to the glory days of oldskool rave with 'Close My Eyes', where classic Apache break breakbeats meld with a pulsating nuskool bassline and massive hands-in-the-air drop! The pace drops a touch with 'Let My Soul Fly Free' which introduces lush vocals with jazzy guitar-licks over skittish percussion while 'Goin Back To Basics' features an exhilarating blend of trance-style euphoria, and filthy D&B, bassline distortion.

'Get On Up' delivers a mash-up of ragga MC shout-outs over a twisted, growling mentasm bassline to further stamp those hardcore influences on the album before we are lured into a hypnotic state with 'In Control's skanking, reggae rhythm and haunting female sighs. Gorgeous, celestial pads open 'Supressed Thoughts' before are feet are directed to do the 2-step shuffle by stepping breaks and industrial bass notes before we are enveloped in 'Total Anihilation', a futuristic stepper with a strong sci-fi vibe and warped bass pressure.

With 'Alright' things go a little darker with the introduction of 'Terminator'-esque synth notes over relentless tech-step breaks and bass dirges. 'Transitional Equinox' up next delivers a contemporary take on the atmospheric jungle sounds pushed by the likes of A Guy Called Gerald back in the early ninties, where soaring strings merge with heavyweight bass throbs while 'Biotic Factor' leads us into a false sense of security with spacious and sparse atmospherics before belting us in the face with 'Shadow Boxing' style bass growls. 'Get Up' delivers a barrage of brain searing stabs (classic Bad Company style!!!) over frenetic, heavyweight breaks and overlaid, ragga chatter before we are hit with an immensely invigorating synth melody and amen edits.

We are then take 'Into The Depths Of Darkness', as we near the end of the album, which combines stepping breaks and eerie shriek effects with a hauntingly sinister piano melody before the soothing ambient, liquid grooves of 'Jump Up'... only kidding... before the roughneck, ragga vocalled bomb that is 'Jump Up' takes control of your feet to get them tearing up the dancefloor. We are taken back to the rave with another high energy, amen backed, ecstatic synth led floor-burner with 'Free Your Soul' which closes the album on a devastatingly high note.

Distrax proves that he has effectively mastered many styles of drum & bass with his 'I Didn't Choose Music, Music Chose Me' album, and definitely has a huge talent for delivering infectious and heavenly melodies that could be comparable to that of a D&B Burial in places as well as providing a huge nod to the scene's oldskool past. A hugely accomplished album of both dark and light, but all dancefloor based drum & bass tracks.

The 'I Didn't Choose Music, Music Chose Me' album is available to purchase now in Limited Edition CD format for $8.00 plus postage and packaging before going on general digital release on 21/01/16. To make your order follow the link below...
