Master Mash offers up his re-interpretation of 1993 era, dark hardcore-jungle, 'Dark Nightmare' for his entry for Single Of The Week. [KLPR004] DJ Monk - Hold Me / Dreams [Unreleased Oldskool Jungle - Available In Digital And Limited 12" Vinyl Formats Now!!!]

1/ Hold Me.
2/ Dreams.

Jungle veteran DJ Monk has dug into his DAT collation once more to unearth two more unreleased and remastered KLP Records jungle gems, circa '94-'95.

The bouncy basslined 'Hold Me' kicks off the proceedings with a chunky, stepping break interspersed with rolling amen edits accompanied by a combination of rugged rap and soulful R&B samples to create a classy slab of jump-up jungle.
'Dreams' opens with languid, jazzy guitar licks and seductive female vocals on the intro before dropping a massive, hard-stepping breakbeat pattern peppered with choice Public Enemy samples and an all enveloping, booming bass-throb melody to the mix.

Despite the term 'jump-up' receiving a lot of negative commentary from some of the more chin-strokey members of the Jungle/D&B communities, DJ Monk's 'Hold Me / Dreams' shows exactly why such well-crafted jump-up was such a huge success in terms of creating dancefloor devastation back in it's 1995-1997 hey-day, and deserves the attention that other elevated forms of high BPM breakbeat based music receive.

DJ Monk's 'Hold Me / Dreams' is available to purchase now in a variety of digital formats from the KLP Records Bandcamp page...

[INMR002] Various Artists - Worldwide Jungle Vibe [12-Track Free Album - Out Now From Inner Minds Recordings]

1/ 16AJ - Make Your Choice (Liver Die).
2/ 8en - Buried.
3/ Amiga Breaks - Back 2 Dalston Lane.
4/ Londy - Things Change.
5/ Msymiakos - The Norwegian Junglist.
6/ Paul Cronin - Bad Girls Go To Hell.
7/ Mighty Dreadnaut - Smokin A Blunt (Remix).
8/ D-Audi - I Feel Good.
9/ Myk Dubz featuring Lily Garcia - The Dark Strings.
10/ 2Brainz - Space Jam.
11/ Zsonic - Assassin Droid.
12/ Redshift - We're Reggae.

To prove that jungle has long become a worldwide musical phenomenon, Inner Mind Recordings have pooled some of the best talent from as far and wide as Norway, Germany, USA, Japan, Canada and the UK for the release of the massive 'Worldwide Jungle Vibe' album.

'Worldwide Jungle Vibe' sets itself off in a ruffneck, junglistic fashion with the tearing and sinister and cinematic opener, 'Make Your Choice (Liver Die)' by 16AJ closely followed by 8en's 1994-style homage to bass heavy, dancehall, ragga-jungle, 'Buried'. Amiga Breaks then timewarps us back even further to 1992 with 'Back 2 Dalston Lane', where he infuses snappy breaks with an infectious piano melody, moody bass throbs and classic diva vocals.

Londy changes things back a gear with the sublime and jazzy vibed 'Things Change' before Mysmiakos adds some serious dub flavours to the amen driven 'The Norwegian Junglist'. 'Bad Girls Go To Hell' by Paul Cronin sees his trademark, heavyweight D&B amens meet with monolithic rave stabs and one killer bassline.

The Mighty Dreadnaught revisits some classic oldskool jungle themes with his tearing 'Smokin A Blunt (Remix)', complete with some cheeky samplage like they used to do so well back then. D-Audi then follows up with a chilled, yet rolling amen-funk workout on 'I Feel Good' which is sharply contrasted by Myk Dubz' pitch black and ominous 'The Dark Strings' featuring the seductive vocals of Lily Garcia.

2Brainz drop an atmospheric slab of next with 'Space jam', which focuses on breakbeat layering and choppage and is then accompanied by the futuristic, sci-fi funk of Zsonic's frenetic stepper, 'Assassin Droid'. 'We're Reggae' by Redshift bookends the album perfectly with an epic percussive festival of dub effects and rolling breaks with the focus bringing atmospherics for your mind and your feet.

The 'Worldwide Jungle Vibe' album showcases just how far the original London based genre has spread across the world, and now that it has reached it's 21st anniversary of it's peak, it doesn't appear to ave lost any momentum in creativity or influence on new artists. A welcome to any serious jungle/oldskool/D&B head out there.

'Worldwide Jungle Vibe' is available to download for free from the Inner Minds Recordings Bandcamp page now (or you can donate however much you feel it's worth to support future projects), so be sure to get yourself a copy of these 12 tracks of breakbeat and bassline bliss!!!

Beat Rapist - Shotgun Shells & Greedy Pimps [Free 11 Track Album!!!]

1/ Shotgun Shells & Greedy Pimps.
2/ LSD & Lasers.
3/ Whistles & Amphetamines.
4/ Angels Fell.
5/ Real Deal.
6/ How We Roll.
7/ Original BadBoy.
8/ 666 The Beast Cometh.
9/ Low Life.
10/ Lysergic Acid Diethylamide = Fucked.
11/ Pills & Amphet.

After close to a year in the making, the Beat Rapist has completed his second free album of heavy-as-hell, apocalyptic jungle beats. It is now time to prepare your eardrums for the sub-bass bothering 'Shotgun Shells & Greedy Pimps'...

The album begins with the self-titled ''Shotgun Shells & Greedy Pimps', combining Beat Rapist's trademark pitched down amen breaks, heavyweight basslines, apocalyptic horns ('Egyptian'!) and gangsta rap sampleage to show that this album isn't going to be an easygoing ride. 'LSD & Lasers' up next  adds an electrifying stab melody to ruffneck 'Think' breaks and amen edits and classic oldskool hardcore vocals proclaiming that things are about to go 'HARDCORE!!!'

The rave continues with the use of crowd samples, MC Mad P quotes and one killer 'hands-in-the-air' oscillator riff on 'Whistles & Amphetamines' before we start our descent into the dark zone on the moody, machine-gunfire hardcore-junglism of 'Angels Fell'. Due to all of the dark and moody jungle featured on the album, it could be easily mistaken that the Beat Rapist may lack a sense of humor? However that fact can easily be debunked by catching the totally unexpected, and 'fish out of water' appearance of a certain "MC" David Dickinson on the darkside 'The Real Deal'.

'How We Roll' incorporates Chuck D and junglist MC shout outs over rolling, yet heavy amen breaks and air horns to capture the energy of sweaty jungle raves perfectly before 'Original Badboy' returns to '92 by adding a classic one-finger 'Landlord' piano melody to the mix alongside 'Original badboy rolling'  and 'Selector to hot for real!' MC GQ rave shoutouts.

We then go a little deeper on the eerily atmospheric and sci-fi styled '666 The Bast Cometh' before phasing into dark jungle territory with the classic Blowfly, 'Sesame Street' break meets evil Reese bass and mentasm snippets of 'Lowlife'.
'Lysergic Acid Diethylamide = Fucked' drops frenetically chopped up amen breaks alongside blaring bass riffs and 'drugs' dialogue snippets before we close with with 'Pills & Amphet', Beat Rapist's breaks, bass and stab-heavy tribute to the days of hardcore.

'Shotgun Shells & Greedy Pimps' is a short at only 34 minutes, but heavyweight distillation of the authentic Beat Rapist sound, as well as a snapshot into a time when the soundtrack of moody and intimidating hardcore and jungle raves was the TRUE sound of the underground.

Shotgun Shells & Greedy Pimps is available to download for free from Beat Rapist's Soundcloud page (just click on the download tab to get your free tracks), so be sure to crack them up and give your neighbors nightmares!!! :D

1/ Copious Ganja.
2/ Tha Funk.

The Deep In The Jungle Records camp return from their latest jungle expedition to bring you two massive slabs of fresh dancefloor destruction from Colorado based junglist Xian Juan.

With 'Tha Funk' on the flipside, Xian takes us back to the jump up jungle glory days of 1996 (before things got outta hand with the cheesly wobble basslines!!!), by incorporating classic rap vocals with heavy, stepping breaks, infectious funky bass and jazzy trumpet flares proving that the term 'jump up' doesn't have to be a negative one.

Red Alfa Records returns hot on the heels of July's now legendary 'Sub Bass' album with 'Total Drum & Bass 2015'. A mammoth selection of all encompassing, upfront Drum & Bass anthems featuring the finest selection of underground artists on the scene.
Now as there are THIRTY-SIX tracks featured on this gargantuan volume, I'm gonna give a one line description for each of them in this review. Here goes...

Opening with two hard-hitting neuro D&B numbers, Fireflake's 'Underground' and companion piece 'Influx' by Lusidbeats, it becomes clear that from the onset 'Total Drum & Bass 2015' isn't going to be taking any prisoners in it's attempt to conquer all sound systems large and small. Hektik follows with his reggae and ragga infused, 2 stepper 'Well' while DJ Twisted unleashes a tearing piece of amen funk with 'Big Up'. After the previous rough and rugged beats DJ Epsalon offers up some liquid soul with 'Travelling Man' before we take a step into the darkness with the sinister, vibrating synth-line led 'It Neva Stopz' from Karmz.

Alex Dex is on the case next with 'Glycerol', which combines stepping breaks with euphoric trance melodies while Decibel Lecter merges electro house with bass and breaks on 'See No Light'. 'Classic Technique' by Raket rolls out a buzz-saw bassline and amen break combo attack before receiving reinforcements from Distrax who unleashes a the rudeboy anthem 'Jump Up'. Four10 follows with 'Badd', a bass heavy stepper with an infectiously hypnotic, razor sharp synth riff while FiendReflex offers up a Drum & Bass call-to-arms with 'Death To EDM' to close the first third of the album.

Sammo brings forth a killer warped bassline on 'Living Organism' accompanied by Karmz & Gotcher's minimalist funk-stepper 'Ain't What It Seems' and Sophistics's Summer jungle vibed 'From Dust To Dawn'While Red Alfa steps up with some sophisticated breakage with 'Cryogen' and is backed up by the sublime 'Valentine's Day Mascara' by Pedro Jenko and the return of Lusidbeats with the undulating bassline driven 'What They Want'.

Fifteen'0'Eight featuring Chop Norris brings us some amen interlaced D&B with 'Rising' complete with a riff that'll be stuck in your head for weeks to come. Mangled stings you with the punchy and atmospheric trumpet laden 'Nettles' backed up by the short, but sweet, growling synth dominated 'Nina Spammina' by Jungle Toy. Babylon3 adds some lush ochestral scoring to some wicked, classic  Bad Company style percussion on 'D9 Ctapilla' whilst Candaray takes things down-tempo to open his chilled, yet tense stepper, on the perfectly titled 'Mellow Breaks'. DJ Ruzt then offers up 'Bassline Rockin' which delivers  lashings of sparse breaks, moody bass plus one hell of an emotive and unexpected piano led drop.

Karmz makes his third appearance on the album, this time with the gnarly synth-led 'Sex Music' accompanied by Thompsonics' euphoric Reese bass-monster 'Locust'Definitely one for the 'hands-in-the-air' massive. NoyaD9 unleashes an '80's sci-fi soundtrack reminiscent amen beast with 'Reaction' before we go all tear-out business again with Distrax's ten-tonne, dark jungle roller 'Jungle Future'. Thompsonics returns once again with a drumstep meets saw-toothed bass belter, 'Quench' closely backed up by the ominous and panicked sounding 'Higher State' from Red Alfa

Kicking off the final six tracks of the album is John Browne with his massive, oldskool hardcore vs D&B based 'Gut Reactions' backed up by the electrifying synth line and stepping breaks led 'Sting Ray' from Babylon3. Blind Begga introduces 'Stronger', a catchy as hell, female vocal focused number while Decibel Lector drops some filthy, noirish vibes with 'Dirtbag', as if he was scoring a dark, sci-fi crime thriller. Electrik Substance delivers an a wicked electric shock synth on 'Porthole', complete with kung-fu flick samples before the album closes on a high with 'Dongle This', a rap/ragga meets booming bass and breaks monster by the Dirty Dongle.

All in all Red Alfa Records 'Total Drum & Bass 2015' album expertly covers so many different flavours and sub-genres of the Drum & Bass genre, that if you find that none of your D&B cravings are satisfied, then it may just be time for you to get into deep house (yawn!). Essential purchase!!!

The massive 36-track 'Total Drum & Bass 2015' album will be available to purchase from all good digital download stores on 20/08/15, so be sure you get your hands on this heavyweight selection of danefloor artillery.

[Dark Til Dawn Records] Paul Cronin - Jack To The Sound [Free Single Of The Week]

1/ Jack To The Sound.

Dark Til Dawn Records go back to the heady days of white gloves, whistles and rave with their latest Single Of The Week freebie, courtesy of hardcore breaks trailblazer Paul Cronin. 'Jack To The Sound' borrows the main vocal from the 1988 Hithouse classic and fuses it with a mish-mash of uplifting oldskool riffs, crunching breaks, diva vocals, thunderous bassline and lush orchestral strings. Encapsulating perfectly what made oldskool hardcore so fresh and current, even 23 years on from it's explosion into the mainstream.

INTENSIVE020:: NEFTI 'Medicine EP' [INTENSIVE RECORDINGS]

Medicine

Nefti is back - and with his trademark sound! Listening to this, his production is getting tighter and tighter! Nice little breaks with crisp kick and snare punching through, but then that opening lush pad enters and lets you know Nefti's arrived! Oh, but then his trademark vocal sound comes in warming up for that massive trademark Nefti piano drop that just confirms this is a future anthem! A tidy bass drop follows the piano scattered with  little old skool stabs before returning to the lush pad, sweet vocal and massive piano! This piano drop is  serious hands in the air business! Back into the bass and stabs, little vocal snips. This is such a great track, very catchy and will grow on you with each listen, a solid track that will go down well and I think remind long time Nefti fans of tunes like 'Take Away The Colour'.

RATE: 8/10

Listen To Your Heart

Oh yes, this track teases an intro with heavy, slow and steppy beats backing a sweet arp before dropping into  the accompanying huge vocals of the classic 'Listen To Your Heart', rolling breaks and acid 303s,straight back to the 80's and 90's with this one! Nice bass fits perfectly with the track and the piano adds to the sound. This rolls nicely and is a solid production and a really nice chilled track on the EP.

RATE: 7/10

Because Of You

Old Skool ravers, this one is just for you! Opening straight up with a Quadrophonia stab and tearing Old Skool break, adding sections of Think break, the pad enters, a dirty synth sound in the background, building vocals to let you know something big is coming! Then it drops, the 2nd time on this EP Nefti returns to his roots and hits you with his trademark vocals and piano! Sounds wicked when the breaks return over this! Builds up into the warm bass and dirty synth, with accompanying trancey riffs. Returns to the main vocal and big piano drop, those breaks, building up again into the dirty bassline. This has Lodz anthem written all over it!

RATE: 7/10

Let It Be Me

Kicking off with a punchy steppy beat, a little arp and vocal snippet enters, followed by another lush pad. POW! Nefti hits you with yet another massive piano line! Where does he get them all from?! A sweet little vocal alongside, this is yet again Nefti's trademark sound! The piano filters out tidily into - POW! - a very punchy bassline that works fine on it's own but then sounds even better with the Old Skool stabs that that play on top of it, giving it more depth and power! The vocal returns and flows nicely on top before the beats and bass drop out with the return of that massive piano! It filters out again as we roll into round 2! Once that Old  Skool stab returns it just reassures you how good it sounded the first time round! Start stripping away the ingrediants as we roll out to the end.

RATE: 8/10

Overall a great EP, 1 cover and 3 great pieces of original work, at least 1 of these is definately going to be a future anthem! Making this another must buy EP! Fans of Nefti's previous hits are going to love this EP as so many tunes on here have Nefti's classic sound but sound like they're polished, more technical than before and reflect Nefti's growth as a producer. Each track on here I will happily play in different sets, but 'Let It Be Me's bass stands out so much and the title track 'Medicine' is outstanding and has all the right ingrediants that when choosing mid set i'm definately going to pull that one!
