The inimitable King of eclectic samplage, FOTH (aka Fool On The Hill for those in the know) makes a welcome return to Wicked Jungle Records bringing with him a diverse, drum & bass duo, with the release of the 'Fire And Snow' single.
For the opening track 'Snow & Ice' were are plunged into lush jazz-step territory where FOTH expertly implements the use of "live" drum breaks paired with a contemplative double bass melody peppered with weather report samples to create a poignant piece of music with just a tinge of melancholia.
Going from the sublime to the farcical, 'Fire' borrows a choice selection of dialogue snippets from UK comedy's premiere basement dwelling, I.T. nerd (all hail Maurice Moss!!!) and scatters them over a relentless 2-step break and obnoxious bass blasts proving that D&B doesn't need to take itself too seriously.
For those who seek po-faced, neuro-funk seriousness or screw-face junglism, you best look elsewhere. However if you are after some precision crafted D&B with it's tongue pressed firmly in cheek, then the sound of the FOTH will most definitely tick all your boxes.
