After a short Festive break, Viral-Mental Records and junglist extraordinaire, Hektic are back with a vengeance to bring you the fiercest and freshest jungle / drum & bass for 2019, and with the release of the '5 Man Crew' EP, 2019 is gonna see the label off to a tearin' start!!!

Stepping up to the plate first we have 'Imminent', which sees Hektic joining forces with fellow Viral-Mental label-mate DROMA to deliver some heavyweight, jungle bassline pressure set to a backdrop of steppin' breaks and ragga, sound-clash vocals.

Up next we are rewound back to 1996 for some classic jump-up jungle style action with 'BadMuthaFucka', a track which incorporates crisp rolling breaks, iconic Tarantino movie dialogue and a bouncing, rubber-band bass riff that'll get yer head nodding.

'5 Man Crew' comes in hard and nasty with it's use of a brain-scouring, mid-range snarls layered over a relentless, 2-step drum pattern and deep subsonic pulses. The tension is ramped up by the tracks clever use of rising, atmospheric pads to create a perfect sense of uncertainty.

The EP is drawn to a rousing close with the ragga vocal driven, nuskool jungle number 'Talk', which expertly combines rudebwoy chatter with deft forward and rervesed bass notes, all underpinned by a rapid-fire, fragmented amen breaks.
 
Once again, Hektic provides the listener with a masterclass in combining oldskool jungle elements into contemporary drum & bass productions, proving that the sounds of jungle's Golden age are far from exhausted.

The Breakbeatscientist's pick of the bunch is the "pulp noir" anthem 'BadMuthaFucka'!!!
