"Weekend Rush is repackaged to present the album as an authentic ‘Pirate Radio’ experience; complete with crackle and static. A window into the world of the (semi)fictional Sweetz FM." - My Pet Flamingo
The magic trio of Enzo Van Baelen, Jerome Sabourin, Thom Hosken, better known as 3PeaceSweetz, return with an amazing album, kind of incing the cake on their very own 'Innersense' LP, which came out three years ago. The very fresh installment goes out under the title 'Weekend Rush' , and this time you should expect the unexpected. Advocators would claim that this work is even higher and upgraded in contrast with 'Innersense'.
'Weekend Rush' feels like the right ode to the Pirate Radio ethos and the good old days of the 90s raves inspired by London's underground scene as UK has been always in the forefront of this groundbreaking movement. The transcendal LP draws on various influences from oldskool dubplates, white labels and radio stations such as Kool FM, Don FM, Dream FM, but to name a few. Thus, the well known Vaporwave label of My Pet Flamingo passed the baton to the 3-piece act to bring something inimitable. And the stars align for the boys, as the album goes down a storm.
Suffice to say that the co-founder of the label, Enzo Van Baelen, has been part of the golden 'Pirate Radio' rave era from back in the day, so in order to promote this new material, he delivered a mix premiering the album and incarnating the 'pirate' spirit in conjunction with their contemporary nu-rave sounds.
"Locked on, tuned in. It’s the sound of the Weekend Rush. ***** This ‘Sweetz FM’ mixed version of Weekend Rush was put together by Enzo Van Baelen, using white label lathe cuts of tracks from the album and a pair of Technics 1210 turntables. Visuals by Jay Sabourin using an Eyesy Video Synthesiser. Mastered by Thom Hosken. Album artwork by Zer0 れい. *Some of the details are fictional, some of the lyrics are borrowed, but all of the tracks were made by 3 Peace Sweetz. We hope you’ll enjoy this flashback to the pirate radio era."
'Weekend Rush' is comprised of 11 original tracks, with our personal highlight 'Brand New' being the poster child for the whole work. It originally comes out on digital format, limited cassette and Vinyl. The digital and cassette versions of the album come with a ‘mixed’ version of the album, by Enzo Van Baelen. Recorded on two Technics 1210s using white label ‘lathe cuts’ of the tracks. The cassette version is already sold out and the 'translucent yellow with black splatter' Vinyl copies are obviously on high demand.
We can realise that the description 'vaporave' is the key to the spirit of 3PeaceSweetz, as Enzo and his team are in progress of a documentary about Vaporwave under the title 'Nobody Here'.
In a nutshell "the album is repackaged as a 'Pirate Radio' style set. It leans heavily on the classic Jungle and breakbeat sound, with a modern VapoRAVE twist" as officially stated. Worth every single penny and deserving the best of reviews, 'Weekend Rush' is apparently one of the toppest and proud releases of 2023. Feel free to add it in your music life.
