The Viral-Mental Records camp are back after their short break, and this time they bring Uzi in tow to unleash his double-entendre loaded 'Tommy Tank EP', which features a quartet of rough and rugged, jungle/D&B dancefloor artillery. Batton down the hatches, it's time for battle!!!
The conflict begins with 'He Da Ho', an upfront slice of headstrong, jump-up drum & bass (circa 1996!), driven by a crisp series of two-step breaks, funky FX swells and a bouncing, rubber ball bassline that'll put a smile right on yer face.
Up next we go all dubwise with the skanking 'Impact', a moody stepper of a tune propelled by rugged beats and a sinister, droning bass riff peppered with forlorn, dub reggae trumpet blasts and guitar flourishes. One for the headstrong junglist out there.
After a heart pounding, stab fuelled intro, title track 'Tommy Tank' gets the party flowing with it's fusion of ascending/descending bass groans and rapid-fire, electro-on-speed breaks switching from lighter to darker vibes in an instant.
We are then led to the EP's conclusion with the 'Wu-Tang Book', which fuses together vintage kung-fu flick samplage and Oriental sound effects, with classic T.O.V. style bass riffs and precision crafted, clockwork breakbeats to give you a veritable martial arts, jungle masterpiece.
As always, the mighty Uzi pulls out all the stops to bring you a rich and varied collection of jump-up jungle (not the kids stuff mind you!) and dancefloor destroying drum & bass that'll be a mainstay in your DJ set for months!!!
