Jay Strata - Electro Shockwave [Ozone Recordings]

Before Hardcore, there was House, before House there was Electro. Jay Strata explores three years in the mid 1980s through the medium of three tracks- 1984, 1985 and 1986 1984 combines classic early House kicks, Toms, soaring melodies, Orchestra strike notes and quirky vocal samples, talking it back it the days of the Chicago pioneers. 1985 is a bouncy Electro/House Jacker with Adonis/Steve Hurley style riffs and intricate overlapping beats straight from the warehouse raves. A catchy vocal refrain adds to the authentic vibe. Imagine Frankie Knuckles dropping this at one of his legendary all-nighters. 1986 features a vocal rendition of the EP title over a catchy, hypnotic groove with the tempo slightly lowered. The laser like FX, combined with the robotic vocal midway give this a distinct flavour- a pristine snapshot of nostalgia and roots that hits just right!

Frankie Bones - The Unreleased Joints

Frankie Bones returns to Ozone Recordings with a four track EP of Unreleased Joints!

'Rave Alert' blends Frankie's signature Techno sound with Electro and super-early Belgian Proto-rave stylings for an intense opener to the EP.

'Ragga Acid' is a melting pot of 303s, menacing vocals and sub smashing bass shots over a classic break.

'You Can Find Me' is my personal pick from this essential EP. Electro Breaks meet Oldskool Rave M1 Korg Piano, and a vocal that will bring memories for the first generation of ravers.

'My House' is a full on Techno stomp with 1991 nostalgia etched into every kick, snare and synth stab that conjures up images of Carl Cox dropping this on a wild crowd!

Super new Vinyl with remastered Ozone Recordings oldies

Swiss label, Mental Groove Records have just unleashed their brand new offering, which is a superb collection of some highlights from the early days of Sheffield's legendary Ozone Recordings.

"It would be fair to say that this snapshot of Ozone Recordings’ excitement-packed back catalogue is well overdue. The Sheffield-based imprint’s contribution to British dance music’s creative boom of the late 1980s and early ‘90s has long been overlooked, with much more focus naturally falling on the Steel City’s other key imprint of the period, Warp Records. (...) Looking back, they offer a good snapshot of the time, just as this tighter, more stripped-down compilation of highlights does." - Matt Anniss

This quality release is one more Vinyl that should be added to your collection. It includes some proper Acid House from the late days of 1989 (by Count Zero and Success) a tradermark of a bleeps & bass track like 'New Age Technlology' by the self titled act evoking the first days of 90s with its futuristic vibe. Finally worth to emphasize on the 'For This II' by Trak 1, taking Techno to the next level with some sampling wisdom of hip hop and rave aesthetics.

This release contains extra words by Matt Anniss, author of the highly recommended 'Join The Future' book and all of the tracks have been remastered by Rob Gordon a local hero known of his act, Forgemasters. This 6-track EP is available on digital and limited trioxygen blue Vinyl edition featuring the infamous The Designers Republic logo.

Available to purchase now and make sure to act fast cos there's only a few Vinyls left on the Bandcamp.

Introducing:: NOISEVANDAL (UK)

Off to the north part of UK now, presenting the man like Noisevandal, a passionate producer/DJ, who likes to experiment most of his time with his hardware synths and drum machines.

He's been collecting Vinyl records since he was 10 years old, back in the early 90s, and the sound from that time has stayed with him. Influenced by Bleep & Bass, Breakbeat Hardcore and other early 90s underground noise, he's dabbled in music production in the past. However, good things happened a year ago, when he re-set his studio up again using Ableton and growing a collection of vintage synths and drum machines from around the time of his most loved tunes from the early 90s.
This was a good boost and a good push that allowed him to recreate the sounds he loves most.

It all happened when some months ago he got a message from Pat Scott (owner of the legendary label of Ozone Recordings) saying that he liked a tune from his Soundcloud page. The rest is history. This tune's entitled 'Stay Home' and it became Noisevandal's first official release. Breakbeats combined with guitars on a mystic trip of eerie and dark vocals and pads.

It's mad but simultaneously fair enough getting a debut release over a great label like this one... This tune gets the attention needed. The reason is because Noisevandal likes experimenting with sounds in general and will always try to cook something distinguished.
After it, he's worked again with the track remixing it, doing the 'Heavins Mix' and now he's extremely glad to see this release and his music project getting recognition.
'Stay Home' is a relevant track for these days, the early days of the new lockdown and a good chance showing support to this 'new' producer, who saw the surface and is determined to offer more in the near future.
