[Bandcamp] Pressa - Understand EP [Available To Download Now!!!!]

1/ Taped Out.

2/ Understand.

Top Drawer Digital's Pressa kicks off 2018 in true heavyweight style with the self-released 'Understand EP', which takes us on a seriously deep and atmospheric retro-futuristic, jungle breaks trip.

'Taped Out' steps up to the mark first and drops an intoxicating blend of dubwise blips, synth swirls and menacing rudebwoy soundbites backed by an unrelenting Think break backbone and cavernous bassline. The track expertly transports the listener back to the heady days of crammed warehouse raves, set to a soundtrack of thunderous breaks and chest rattling bass frequencies.

'Understand' follows next and delivers a 140 bpm take on the vintage Blue Note D&B formulae, where soulful, sliced and diced R&B vocals interweave with stepping breaks and soaring pads capturing the vibe of mid-nineties Reinforced Records jungle experimentation.

Pressa expertly showcases what what the jungle breaks scene has to offer with these two cuts here, as well as providing a taster of what is expected at the infamous Subsidance events that he organises. Don't miss out on this one!!!

Pressa's 'Understand EP' is available to purchase digitally for £2 (or more if you are feeling generous!) from the official Pressa Bandcamp page...

[WJS 009] Rad Rod - Madness EP [Available To Download From All Good Wicked Jungle Records Stockists Now!!!]

1/ Madness.

2/ Dark Desires (featuring Lily Garcia).

The inimitable Rad Rod, Inner Minds Recordings label owner and one half of US jungle production team 2Brainz makes his debut on Wicked Jungle Records with the release of the 'Madness EP' featuring vocals from chanteuse Lily Garcia.

First off the listener is taken on a sliced and diced, amen break rollercoaster ride into the depths of 'Madness' where docu-dialogue gets twisted and manipulated to abstraction amongst  a scattering of disembodied rap vocal snippets and other sample miscellany. All layered over an intense breakbeat foundation and rumbling bassline which altogether perfectly underpins the 'insanity' of the theme.

A similar off-kilter approach is applied to 'Dark Desires', which blends familiar junglistic tropes with manic, breakcore percussive stylisms and darkly ominous sound FX. All accompanied by Lily Garcia's sultry vocal exclamations of 'dark' passion, which are then shredded and spliced together to create a heady and intoxicating blend.

With the 'Madness EP', Rad Rod delivers a solid package of well crafted, controlled chaos. Proving that there is plenty of room for a little bit of experimentalism in the jungle/drum & bass sphere. So don't be afraid to venture out of your comfort zone and get on this one!!!!

[MR002] Liam Taylor - Break It EP [Beatport Pro Exclusive Pre-Release Available Now!!!]

1/ Break It.

2/ Hells Bells.

After the release of their debut release last month, the Music Rascals label strikes while the iron is still hot with their second release, the 'Break It EP' featuring the very talented Liam Taylor.

Liam sets the ball rolling with the hypnotically atmospheric drum & bass number, 'Break It' which incorporates contemplative yet slightly ominous pads alongside stepping breaks, down-pitched bleepy bass throbs and a wicked, oldskool repeated 'Break it down time' vocal.
It's companion piece, 'Hells Bells' utilises a classic chiming melody instantly recognisable from an Invisible Man anthem and overlays it with a frenetic, yet simplistic break and manic amen combo complete with expertly timed reversed edits.

Both tracks capture the essence of 1993's hardcore/jungle crossover perfectly by contrasting soothing atmospherics with intense breaks and booming basslines whilst at the same time effectively introducing modern production techniques to the mix. Liam Taylor is one to watch out for!!!

Liam Taylor's 'Break It EP' is available to download now, exclusively from Beatport Pro for two weeks before going on general release to all good digital stores.!!!
