For anyone with even a passing interest in the history of hardcore and jungle, the name Bizzy B, aka Brian Johnson is synonymous with frantic drum programming, fiercely chopped amen breaks and intensely dark atmospherics. With releases on a vast array of high profile labels such as Labello Blanco, Planet Mu, Reinforced, Suburban Base and White House Records and a musical carreer spanning the birth of hardcore, jungle and drum & bass right up to the present day, Bizzy B has been a pivitol force in the evolution breakbeat choppage.
After a several years of delivering a series of under the radar, white label vinyl singles and digital dubs, Bizzy B has chosen to resurrect his legendary Brain Records label with the release of the brand new '1999 Dub / The Power Of The Darkside' 12" single.
The previously unreleased '1999 Dub', straight from deep within the Brain Records D.A.T. archives kicks off the release in a vintage, mid-nineties ragga-jungle style. Combining frantic 'Scottie'/amen break edits with immense, 808 bass booms accompanied by a liberal smattering of ragga-soundclash chatter, '1999 Dub' proves that those classic junglist sounds are just as relevant, and devastating two-decades on from it's inception.
On the flipside we are introduced to the neo-darkcore-jungle sounds of 'The Power Of The Darkside', which drops a fierce barrage of heavyweight, chopped amenss and thundering subsonic bass throbs interlaced with a brain-searing, twisted vibrato-synth line and iconic sci-fi movie quotes. 'The Power Of The Darkside' expertly takes that classic pitch black '93/'94 hardcore-jungle formula and delivers a 2016 twist that's destined to do damage on all 'headstrong', D&B dancefloors.
