A - Stick Em Up.
AA - Roll On.
We kick off with rabble rousing 'Stick Em Up' on the A-Side, which features a tearing Think/Amen break backing coupled with pummeling bass hits, soulful female R&B samples and the infamous Black Panther civil disobedience message. 'Stick Em Up' proves to be a perfect example of rowdy, rudebwoy junglism with a few touches of musicality to smooth things off nicely.
On the flipside, 'Roll On' sees a mellow, G-Funk melody flow into rugged, stepping breaks and a rumbling bassline complete with a sprinkling of classic oldskool scratching to create a minimal, yet expertly crafted slice of head-nodding jungle.
On listening to 'Stick Em Up / Roll On' and previous KLP Records unreleased vinyl releases, it makes me wonder why on earth these D.A.T.s were left gathering dust for so many years, yet overjoyed by the fact that DJ Monk has been able to bring them back to life 20 years on from their creation for a new lease of life on wax.
Limited to only 100 copies, the DJ Monk, 'Stick Em Up / Roll On' 12" vinyl single is available to pre-order now from the KLP Records Bandcamp page for the bargain price of £9.99 (plus P&P). So if you're an oldskool jungle, vinyl enthusiast then you better get on this one quick before they all go!!!
