Newcastle based nu-rave don, Dan Muteki is back after a while with a new weapon comprised of two fresh bursts of breaks artillery fire. This is 'The Rot EP' and it's just...splendid!
'The Rot' is a 135 bpm drive and feels like a brooding explosive threnody for a crumbling cultural empire. Growling bass, a tortured choir and machine-gun breaks. Then comes 'Human Soldier' is a bittersweet plea for sanity on 131 bpm. Melodic and moody, underpinned with a heavy break and emotional vocal moments.
Definetely one for your digital library and if you're fancy to hit amy fresh sophisticated tune to your sets. Worth every penny!
Who is who
Dan Muteki is from Bristol (UK) but is now based in Newcastle upon Tyne. He's been making electronic music for nearly 25 years and has been putting out releases since 2010. He deals in detailed, hard-hitting breakbeat styles - rave-inflected, riff-driven and soaked in the sampling tradition.
As Muteki, he made a slew of releases in the Hardcore Breaks genre for the Cue Burn Digital label in the early 2010s, before moving to self-releasing via Bandcamp - starting with the thundering debut LP This Is Normal in 2017. A cascade of two-track EPs have followed, flying the flag for breakbeat rave but also making jolts into the underground Breaks genre.
