LBD Sounds Unveils Rico909’s "Rave Tracks 1997-98"

Prague based imprint LBD Sounds is known for its commitment to releasing eclectic and often forgotten gems from across genres and formats. Their latest offering, 'Rave Tracks 1997-98', brings to surface an early collection of tracks from Rico909 – a name oscillating between Italy, the UK, Czechia, and India. However, labeling it as a “new album” might be slightly misleading, as these tracks were originally created when Rico909 was in his teen years during the late '90s.

Handpicked by Olin & Rob, the compilation showcases music from 1998-99, a period where the young producer was experimenting with electronic sounds during his second attempt at music production. His first venture was with Music 2000 on PlayStation, but that tape has unfortunately been lost to time. At the time, Rico909 had little understanding of the world of electronic dance music, but his passion for the genre led him to explore software like Soundforge, Acid Pro, Goldwave, and D-Lusion Rubberduck on his family's first computer.

The tracks are raw, unrefined, and free of form – shaped purely by instinct rather than technical expertise. Without the constraints of commercial appeal or industry knowledge, Rico909’s early creations radiate an infectious energy, driven purely by creativity. There’s a sense of liberation in these tracks, a purity that mirrors a time before digital tools fully defined the sound of modern electronic music. As LBD Sounds releases these forgotten treasures, they remind listeners of the importance of creative freedom – a mindset that remains just as relevant today, both in music and life.

For those looking to get their hands on a physical copy, the release will be available in a limited edition of 50 transparent cassette tapes, with the album also offered in digital format. Also, LBD Sounds will host a special Listening Party on March 26, 2025, at 21:00 (GMT+2). It’s a pretty good chance to join this early, experimental soundscape and discuss the album’s creation.

Flipper - Nah Follow Dem Path [Impact Reset]

Stockholm based producer Flipper has recently dropped his new single, 'Nah Follow Dem Path'. More than just a track, but a powerful statement, this tune combines breakbeats with a deep, raggamuffin influence, while also carrying a message that resonates on a personal and societal level.

In his own words, Flipper speaks candidly about the destructive lifestyle that certain artists are promoting to today's youth. "They glorify violence and easy money through drug dealing, show off extreme luxury, and treat women as objects," he says. 'Nah Follow Dem Path' stands in stark contrast to this mentality, urging young people to resist those harmful messages and to forge their own path in life instead.
"The Swedish rap in the track encourages artists to speak about the good things in life and how to make a change. Some defend their lyrics by saying they depict reality. I get that, but they could also rap about how they would like reality to be, and how to solve society's problems. Extrapolating bad things isn't "depicting reality" - Flipper

Flipper chose to release the track through Impact Reset, a Swedish label that has been a key part of his journey. Sweden, as Flipper points out, is facing a growing issue with youth violence, and he hopes his music can be a catalyst for change. "They were the first label that showed interest in my music when I was starting out," he adds. "This track is a way for me to show my gratitude and make a statement about what’s important."

'Nah Follow Dem Path' is out now available to dtream and buy. It certainly provides a strong message and it's more than meets the eye.
