[FDX008 & FDXBLKSR005] - Foundation X

Foundation X starts off the year with two vinyl releases that prove once again this Label has no intention of slowing down. I’m excited to see what they have in store for the masses in 2018.

A1. MORPHY - PUT DOWN YA GUNZ (SPIRIT’S RIOT MIX)

Foundation X drops FDX008 with a Spirit remix of Morphy - ‘Put Down Ya Gunz’, which was originally released in 2001. Spirit gives a fresh energy boost with this solid remix, slaughtering it in every way possible. It's evident why this tune is called Spirit’s Riot Mix. Play this to a mobbed room of hungry Junglists waiting for serious amens and watch the dance floor create havoc in response. Heavy hitting with no mercy, Spirit knows how to remix anything given to him.

AA1. SKITTY - HORNSMAN (X NATION REMIX)

On the flip of FDX008 is X Nation’s remix to Skitty’s ‘Hornsman’, also released in 2001 with Nolige on FDX003. X Nation reworks Skitty’s track turning it into a full bass weighty bad boy rump shaker, guaranteed to gyrate bodies on the dance floor. As an enjoyable remix to vibe with, this could easily be placed as an opening tune for any mix full of riddims. This remix just has that old school flavor to it with it’s half time step, vocals, and horns.

  A. BROTHERS UNITE
AA.WHAT GOES AROUND

Foundation X sublabel Foundation X Black releases their 5th vinyl release series with FDXBLKSR005, Dub One’s first full 12” with Foundation X.

‘Brothers Unite’ intro is a work of art as the melody seeps into your brain, putting you in a hypnotic trance that could be heard throughout the tune. It is deep rooted, dark, atmospheric, lush and the drumwork precise as a recognizable Dub One production. It is a musical journey from beginning to end, and when you think it might slow down it is taken up a notch with drum edits that causes you to transcend. Beautiful is all there is to say about this tune.

‘What Goes Around’ is an absolute banger and a suburb flip to this limited edition release on FDX Black. Dub One brings you back to your roots with his dubby vocal samples, mental cutting amens, and a cliff hanging drop that will leave you speechless. It compliments the release as Dub One executes it to perfection yet once again.

Overall both FDX008 and FDXBLKSR005 are a must have in your collection. Foundation X makes sure to leave an impression on their listeners with bringing it back to our roots and culture.

Respect goes out to Foundation X and all their hard work.

4/ Hungry Tiger (Tim Reaper VIP Mix).

For anyone who has followed the jungle and drum & bass scenes since from their inception, then the DJ and producer, Stretch will be a familiar name with his legendary remixes of classic ragga/dancehall tracks on the Street Tuff label, his regular appearances on long established labels including Reinforced Records (as DJ Stretch and as one half of , Riddim Track Records and Kartoons, as well as setting up his own label, A-Ko Recordings in '96 and which was recently reborn in 2014 as AKO Beatz.

For the third AKO Beatz release, DJ Stretch has collected four of the highest pedigree, contemporary jungle and drum & bass producers to rework his heavyweight 1996 jump-up classic 'Hungry Tiger'.
London based Serum sets the ball rolling by overlaying the trademark kung-fu flick dialogue with stepping breaks , ominous horn sounds and fierce bass growls. Next up the Dublin junglist, Ricky Force provides a bass heavy, roller with lashings of chop-socky, fighting effects.

Altogether the 'Hungry Tiger Remixes' provides four essential drum & bass updates of a seminal piece of jungle history for 2015. Don't sleep on this one!
