After four years of delivering the very finest in dancefloor friendly drum and bass Viral-Mental Records present their 100th release, and have pulled out all stops with the 'VMR Team Vol. 1' album. Featuring sixteen brand new tracks from Viral-Mental Records' artist roster, and spanning everything from ruffneck, jungle rollers to razor-sharp neurofunk. It's time to join in with the celebration!

We are first introduced to Uzi's amen infused, 'i Captain' which gets the album off to a tearing start with it's infectious blend of rolling breaks, smooth sax licks and grimey bass drones. DROMA up next takes us on a deep and moody trip into drum & bass with 'The Search' which expertly combines soothing pads and neuro bassline pressure.
The inimitable Jaguar Paw offers up a filthy slice of heavyweight, steppin' junglism with the P.O.T.U.S. sampling 'It Duzn't Exist' and is closely followed by Hektic's darkly hypnotic 'Room Service', which easily conjures up vintage bassline rollers from the Golden Era of D&B.

SkorpZ steps into the arena next with his epic amen break driven 'My World', a rich soundclash of frenetic breaks and tension steeped atmospherics. Oz's premier mistress of darkness, Laydee Virus introduces us to her latest stripped back neuro flavoured stepper 'Shadow Cover', a precision crafted exercise in ominous soundscapes and clockwork percussion.
Dredillah unleashes his deep, dark jungle/drum & bass fusion, 'Ay Ay' which merges together crisp, 2-step breaks and grime encrusted bass riffs with classic, jungle drum rolls before Inphekt drops yet another trademark, neo-darkside bomb with the menacing, Reese bass riff fuelled 'Army Of One'.

DROMA returns for another stab at the action with 'A Gun', a track steeped in pensive, orchestral swells, sinister movie dialogue and robotnik synth riffage which is closely succeeded by Dredillah's razor-sharp slice of neurofunk, 'Katana', with it's deadly blend of relentless 2-step breaks and harsh Reese drones.
Those machine-like, neuro sounds continue on with Inphekt's 'Phualius', with it's heavy industrial D&B flavour underlined by a subtle Euro-harcore undercurrent. Uzi switches things up in a junglistic fashion with the dub-reggae skank fuelled 'Fire Burning', an intense amen rinse-out with one hell of a catchy vocal hook. One for the 'Lighter' crew!!!

Hektic return's to the fray with 'If It Bleeds', taking vocal elements from an iconic, '80's sci-fi/action classic layered with steppin' breaks and a deadly twin-bass combination. Up next we have 'The Kings' by Jaguar Paw, a moody, minimal jungle piece which expertly combines, crisp beats, killer bassline and cheeky "Inglorious" move snippets.
SkorpZ delivers yet another deep and atmospheric, yet hard-hitting cut with the symphonic 'Chaos Theory' which utilises sweeping strings alongside tearing breaks and bass to utterly devastating effect. Bringing the album to it's conclusion, Laydee Virus drops another tech-step bomb with the 'Reverse Dimensions (VIP Mix)' perfectly capturing that classic pre-millennial dark D&B sound.

With this diverse collection of drum & bass and jungle cuts, there is no better time for you to sample the Viral-Mental sound. Grab yourself a copy of this and join the VMR Team!!!

Sust kickstarts the proceedings with 'Devotion', a dub-flavoured, high-octane slice of D&B perfectly accented with an emotive piano melody and stepping breaks. We are then introduced to the sleek and stealthy 'Going In' by Xeropoint. A moody, sci-fi tech-step number which instantly evokes a classic early noughties Bad Company UK vibe.
Precise takes us on a growling, synth/bass journey with 'Inception', which expertly fuses together a succession of menacing buzz-saw riffs and razor-sharp 2-step beats before we see Gold Dubs & Papa Gee flip the script with their anthemic, feelgood, vocal jungle track, 'Lighters Up', provide some serious bubbling, bassline business to the mix.

The darkness descends with Cynical Gene's homage to the iconic, minimal tech-step sound with '99-00s', a sinister and cinematic slice of dark drum & bass which effortlessly delivers an expertly crafted balance of tension  and release. Up next, Dapz carries on the pitch black theme with his heavyweight reworking of Bangta Rights' pitch black, MC vocal led neurofunk beast, 'The Architects Prophecy'.
The pace eases back to a more chilled riddim for Josephs Perceptions' 'Heaven Sent', which receives a sublime relick from the inimitable jungle Don, Nicky Blackmarket and partner in crime, Voltage. Future Shock drops his epic tribal D&B fusion with 'Ancient City', which fuses futuristic soundscapes overlaid with rolling breaks and Shamanistic chants.

Section's 'All Said And Done' opens up the albums second half with it's combination of rock-solid, neuro beats and twisted bassline, set to a series of ethereal, spine-tingling pads, before Subsense & Quadra's hard-edged yet liquid funk tinged 'Don't Stop' delivers some respite from all of the moodiness.
Original junglist, Gappa G steps into the arena alongside Tobias to bring to you some sci-fi soul with the brooding 'Dysomnia', which combines adrenalising amen breaks and deep bass throbs with ominous atmospherics. NYC based producer AnnGree see's her lush 'Give You Love To Me' receive a tearing, amen led, VIP jungle remix from the mighty Dapz that'll set the dancefloors alight.

Future Shock returns once more with yet another monstrous, neurofunk number with the first 'Album Exclusive' track,  'Turn Off The TV', which comes across like an audio equivalent of some kind of towering, Mecha-Godzilla beast. Xeropoint brings forth some more darkside bliss with 'Future Dub Bizniz', a hyper-kinetic fusion of Burial-esque dubscapes set to a relentless 2-step beat.
Sust makes another appearance with 'Remember The Good Times', and brings with him the vocal talents of songstress Clair M to deliver a fast-paced, piano laced before the album is brought to a conclusion by I-Dren's ominous, jungle stepper, 'Side Step', a subsonic bass driven peppered with scuttling breaks and precision crafted, twisted synth notes that'll set your teeth on edge.

The 'Best Of The Bass Volume II' album presents an exemplary selection of drum & bass styles, from rough and rugged jungle, to dark and twisted neurofunk and silky smooth liquid. If you love all styles of D&B then look no further than this massive LP!!!

The Breakbeatscientist's top pick of the album is Section's hauntingly atmospheric 'All Said & Done'.

After what seems to have been an age of doing the rounds on promo, the eagerly awaited 'The Faceless Exchange Of Beats' album from pioneering breakbeat label, Boomsha Recordings finally surfaces to deliver it's payload of precision crafted, future jungle bombshells. The concept behind the album revolved around a discussion between Boomsha Recordings label boss, Daz Breaks and original oldskooler Simon Colebrooke, of 2 Bad Mice / Kaotic Chemistry fame, regarding how modern day music is produced and distributed between artists and labels from all corners of the globe without there ever being a person to person encounter. Daz and Simon then set the wheels in motion to compile sixteen mammoth breakbeat tracks from the most high profile artists within the jungle breaks scene, and the result is 'The Faceless Exchange Of Beats'...

Pressa sets the ball rolling with his stripped back re-envisioning of oldskool rave, 'Need U', which drops a series of twangy, bass throbs over a tapestry of of rugged breaks and scatterings of euphoric pianos. Up next Vertical Drop and Bobby Tee delivers an epic downtempo slice of vocal, breakbeat hardcore chock full of emotive breakdowns, sweeping strings and infectious stab patterns. Redshift's 'Interdiction' takes us on a tribalistic, jungle roller-coaster ride, complete with a surprise, uplifting drop midway before the legendary Bay B Kane hits us with his hauntingly atmospheric contribution, 'Hanging Tree', which combines heavy rolling amen breaks with a sinister female vocals and jarring, warped synth section that positively gets your skin crawling.

The dark themes continue with the noirish 'FIGHT!' by Blood, which sees a menacing bass pattern does battle with expertly sliced and diced breaks and chop-socky, martial arts flick samplage. Pixel takes us back into the light with the beautifully crafted, yet bassline focused epic, 'Pacific' which is soon succeeded by Etch's 'Fight Talk (Sampledelica)', an uncompromising future-jazz-D&B fusion done oldskool, Metalheadz stylee. D-Audi up next introduces us to the stirring stringed intro of 'Airborn', which soon evolves into a soulful vocalled and twisted bass riff propelled 140 jungle monster.

The darkness descends once more on Schoco's pitch black 'Insanity', which fuses machine-gun breakbeat choppage with ominous synth notes and a brain searing, descending stab pattern to devastating effect. Ilk's mentasmic jungle roller, 'Make U Mad' the iconic "hardcore sound", morphed and manipulated whilst being welded to an impeccably rugged, junglistic percussive backbone. Whereas X-E-Dos takes the 140 bpm, jungle formula and incorporates heavyweight, drum & bass aesthetics on the menacingly portentous, 'The Apocalypse'. DJ Aitch rounds of the album's third quarter by layering a succession of brooding pads and strings over rolling break pattern on 'The Orbit' to form a hugely effective exercise in tension and release.

The inimitable NickyNutz conjures up reverb heavy, dub atmospherics overlaid with militaristic drumbeats on 'Mirage', which evokes the audio equivalent of a stealthily prowling panther slinking through the night. Rolling Paper's 'Grotty' meshes together shuffling, footwork style claps with hyper-kinetic jungle breaks and a throbbing bass melody that's pure earworm fodder, whilst Vertical Drop returns once more to drop some more razor sharp, yet soulful, rave fueled future jungle vibes on 'A Quick Skank'. The album is drawn to a perfect conclusion with Sound Shifters' 'does-exactly-as-it-says-on-the-tin', titled 'Darkest One', which sees frenetically interwoven amen and think break edits, married with nerve-jangling, ghostly pads and bass heavy drones.

'The Faceless Exchange Of Beats' successfully draws inspiration from all points within the history of UK, breakbeat based music genres, from it's inception in the heady days of hardcore/rave  through to it's evolution into jungle and drum & bass and beyond. I would implore anyone who considers themselves to be a fan of any of the aforementioned musical genres to discover this album, and the artists who have contributed to it. Consider this a masterclass in the art of JUNGLE BREAKS.

The mighty 'The Faceless Exchange Of Beats' album is available to purchase exclusively from Beatport for 2 weeks before becoming available to purchase from all good Boomsha Recordings digital stockists. So if you want to get in there early, before everyone else does, you'd better make it snappy!
