And now something completely exciting for those who love the original oldskool sounds. Taking it back to 1991 and Mendoza Records, "Both Ends" by Underkut is one of those underground sophisticated gems that's more than catchy.
From the first drop, the Big Daddy Kane sample sets this off… “Get Raw” and it never sounded so menacing. The track smashes through with super slamming breakbeats, a massive bassline, and raw, rugged energy. It provides authentic underground hardcore power with obvisouly no pianos or chipmunks.
And now, Jerome Hill, the man behind Super Rhythm Trax, proudly presents this classic reissued on his label. Carefully remastered from the original DAT tapes, both original versions of this ferocious hardcore cut are seamlessly hitting harder than ever.
This tune is a proper London pirate classic, rooted in the vibrant early ’90s scene. Originally released on Mendoza Records, run by Brixton-based Faze 1 FM pirate station owner Mendoza, this record carries all the grit and spirit of its era. Add to that the fact that while digging through the DAT tapes, an unreleased, unheard vocal version was also discovered. Included as a true of its time artefact, this mix leans further into the record’s Hip Hop influences, reflecting the Britcore energy flourishing alongside crews like Hijack, Gunshot, Cash Crew, Demon Boyz, and London Posse.
This reissue is a rare chance to own a piece of hardcore history at a fair price. And with Bandcamp Day reaching on March 6, all profits go directly to the independent artists and labels. Eventually that makes it double the reason to show your support.
