Bass Scoops Radio Presents : Myriad Recordings @ Cosies Bristol February 28th 2025

Right this is serious… none of my  crap jokes and bizarre musical references that go  off at tangents that  would give Salvador Dali a headache .

Bass Scoops Radio presents - Flyer front

I’m putting on my first “night” on Friday February 28th 2025 at the legendary Cosies in Bristol. I have to pinch myself and take a moment to appreciate this ya know.  It’s going to be a  night of high quality "proper" drum n bass and jungle. I’m doing this with my good friend and label boss of the  excellent  Myriad Recordings, Wills -E.  Myriad is an example of a label done right, high quality music, beautifully pressed and presented vinyl with a rosta of artists and remixers that represents the very best in the scene.  If you haven't heard of them before get over to their bandcamp in the link above and check them out. They are one of those buy on sight labels that you don't even need to hear the tune before pulling the BC trigger,  you will not be disappointed.

The  opportunity to do this night has  been possible due to the wonderful UK network of underground jungle, drum n bass & hardcore, more about that later as part of my enthralling Bass Scoops Radio origin story, of which the film rights are available to the highest bidder. ( Editors Note – Are we able to bid on IT to  not ever being available also, as we suffer enough via your blog reports Scoops!)

I promised no crap jokes and I’ve  probably already lost half the readers I’m sure  so back to the night…Sorry,

The line up is top quality! Wicked DJ’s, Producers  and MC’s  the lot of em!

·      Madcap

·      PHD

·      Codex

·      EKTO1

·      Wills - E

·      Solitude

·      DNA

I can guarantee you’re going to hear some brilliant selections with this crew dropping exclusives, vip’s and dubs amongst no doubt a few classics. If I wasn’t  do'ing the door I’d be trainspotting next to  the booth  all night long armed with a  specially  hacked black op’s version of shazzam (the one that doesn’t confuse early 91 aardcore with  2003 tech house  compilations like I seem to have installed on my phone  ) and the GLR pages of Discogs printed out ready to go.

As mentioned  earlier ,  this night came about by  nature of the wonderful underground of breakbeat leaning music in the UK.  Our  music scene is a gift and a daily example of the best of people imho , yeah there  is some mad  orrible stuff true but stick with me here people I’m having a misty eyed moment (Editors Note – Not even hay fever season to blame this on Scoops eh?)

My whole Bass Scops Radio  “thing “ owes these guys a lot. Via the excellent Black Gold Vinyl Fair ( Bristol 2022 edition) I  first met Wills-E  Myriad, Madcap (Creative Wax)  and the  man like Codex  on their record stall; and all were gracious enough  to  grant me  my first ever interviews that became the first ever Bass Scoops Radio interview show. To give some nerdy bloke   the time of day is one thing but to entrust their words to tape is something  I’ll be forever grateful for and  it definitely  helped me get my little show off the ground for sure. Big up's and nuff respect!

This led to a number of friendly hello’s over the coming years at different events leading to a few "volunteer" shifts minding the Myriad / Creative Wax stall at Bunters also wonderful  Rave Story at Elektrowerx in London while Wills -E went off to strut his stuff on the dancefloor (apparently he could have gone pro dancing bitd  I’m told…  sorry Will 😅).  Culminating  in an invite to  cover the Myriad and Smooth n Groove Whitney event back in the summer of last year, listen back here to what was fantastic night of DnB inclusive of interviews with PHD and Villem amongst others. It was at this night that the idea was hatched to bring this line up a little further  west to Bristol and my most favourite venue ever, the legendary Cosies. I’m sure there’s some magical acoustic property of those sweaty  underground cellars that’s helps the bass boom that bit more  ya’know.

Bristol's best clubs and music venues

So if you can make  it , do come and say hello. I’ll be the fat bloke with a beard  on the door, looking very happy with life whilst faffing with a sum up machine ,  nodding along to the music wafting out of that cellar and  asking randoms for track id’s…

To next time dear breakbeatr’z

John Bass Scoops
