Neophyte drum & bass label Invasion Recordings hits the ground running with it's debut release, the 'Beyond Human EP' from Bristol based producer Subcriminal.
We are first introduced to the ominous sounds of 'Human', which sets a rebellious, sci-fi tone with it's combination of layered 2-step and amen breaks, twisting bass growls, portentous, doom-laden chords and defiant movie dialogue samples.
Up next, 'Amazonian' ramps up the warped factor by dropping an monolithic acidic synth riff over a series of relentless breaks and a filthy bassline to create a devastating slice of dance-floor artillery.
'Iowaska' brings the EP to a close and adds the 'funk' to 'neuro-funk' through it's combination of rock solid beats and pulsating, rhythmic bassline, accentuated by ghostly female vocal sighs.
If Subcriminal's 'Beyond Human EP' is a sign of things to come from Invasion Recordings, then it's time welcome the invasion. Resistance will be futile!!!
