For the Criterion Records 12th release we welcome the return of Champa B after the success of his previous 'Reform / Past & Present' single, alongside label newcomer, the immensely talented Return:II to present two essential slices of drum & bass on wax with the release of 'The Avenue / Love Me' 12".
We are first introduced to the darkly atmospheric sounds of Return:II's 'The Avenue', which combines ominous drones and subsonic bass pluses and overlays them with a series of intricately sliced, diced and manipulated amen breaks. Return:II expertly creates a sense of tension and portentous danger with 'The Avenue' that reels in the listener and does not let go.
With 'Love Me', Champa B takes back to a time when lush, soaring pads joined in perfect harmony with frantic, rolling amen breaks, dreamlike aquatic effects and spine-tingling female vocal whispers to create the perfect fusion of both tribal and spiritual elements.
As with all releases prior, Return:II and Champa B carries on the Criterion Records' statement of intent to bring the listener precision crafted drum & bass, exclusively on vinyl.
